i just realized that now that i've got this blog linked on the RBF site, people other than friends and family will be visiting here. i guess that means i need to have a 'welcome' page. that way, you don't have to wade through all my previous posts to find out the basic details. so, here goes:
i place four labels on myself: christian, husband, runner, geek.
christian. Christ follower. flawed, yes, but my heart belongs to God. i don't find it natural to blog about my religious beliefs and mental turnings, but occasionally something of that nature will stick in my head and i'll have to work through it in a blog entry. for you non-christians reading through this, don't worry, i won't beat you over the head with my passion for Christ. but know that i don't compromise on those beliefs.
husband. for the past 10 years, i have had the extreme pleasure to be married to supermodelsexymommahead, or smsmh for short. she is the joy behind my smile, the spring in my step, the tune for my dance. she compliments every aspect of my character, giving compassion where i would be harsh, a soft touch where my rough hands mangle, providing encouragement when i lose sight of my goals. i am a mediocre husband at best, flailing miserably in romantic waters, but smsmh makes loving her easy.
runner. since my youth i've been an active kid. i ran a couple years of track and cross-country in high school, but drugs and the wrong gang kept me from excelling. i ran enough to stay in decent shape while in the marines and the years afterward, but it wasn't until i took over responsibility for a church based running group in 1999 that i really started to get somewhat focused on my running. i ran my first marathon in 2002, have 6 under my belt and have set the life-goal of running one on each continent. two down, five to go. i enjoy running for fitness, sure, but more so for the relationships, the solitude and the beauty.
geek. NOT a nerd, but a geek. i like to think i'm at least a little socially adept! i geek out on database technology, web programming, mp3 technology, maps, cycling, running and outdoor equipment. if you do not want me to ramble incessantly, do NOT bring up any of these topics!
aside from those things, i guess the only real other information would be job, location and whatnot. i'm 35, living in laguna hills, california and working as an application programmer for a mfg company. i've been working there and living in so. california for 7+ years now, but am beginning to get grand ideas about cashing out of the california rat race to teach and coach somewhere like idaho or colorado.
well, that's me in a nutshell (help! i'm stuck in a nutshell!)
