hey folks, we've finally decided to plan the first rbf fest. this december 4th, the rbf will be supporting rbf members at the las vegas marathon. if you've been on the fence about this race, or looking for a winter marathon in a wonderful destination location, put this one on your calendar!
smsmh and i, along with other rbf members will be out in force to support all the rbf members looking to run this race. and one of the best things to look forward to is an rbf pasta feed the night before the race! you'll finally get to meet the faces behind the blogs and show your support!
the goal of this rbf fest in vegas is to make the event as seamless as possible for the runners. need help with travel? need help with lodging? need help with fluids or gear along the course? looking for other rbf'ers to run along with you? need someone to run the last 6 miles with you? post your need on the rbf message board so we can support you!
start planning now to join us in vegas on december 4th, 2005!
Posted by jeff at June 13, 2005 12:36 PMI'm just all teary. *sniff*
Posted by: mark at June 13, 2005 12:49 PMI'm excited...I've just got to talk the man into going....I"m not ready to commit to the run yet. But i'm close to committing to support staff. How far are you from Vegas? Will you have a car there to drop us off at key cheering squad spots...Shouldn't Mark being designing some RBF fest t-shirts??
Posted by: brit at June 13, 2005 12:56 PMmy sister lives in henderson, just a couple miles from the strip. we'll have a couple cars available to drop support crews and to move crews to various points on the course.
we can also arange for any number of transportation situations, from airport pick-ups to race morning shuttling. you name the need, and the rbf will step up to see it filled.

Oh I want to come...... But not sure the budget will permit, dang blasted tax man is taking all my extra cash. grrr. Maybe if I win the lottery...lol.
Posted by: Dawn (aka Pink Lady) at June 13, 2005 5:59 PMWhat a great idea!!!! I can't make it this year, but maybe another year. I would love to meet more members of the RBF.
Posted by: aprilanne at June 13, 2005 7:57 PMDudes,
It's Vegas. It's a cheap flight and you'll have support staff. There isn't any better year than the present.

Posted by: SD at June 13, 2005 9:44 PMUnfortunatly I'm not going to make it. Would have been a great chance to meet all the wonderful people behind these blogs, that I have been following over the last months and that gave me so much motivation for my marathon adventure.
Maybe next year, hopefully!
Posted by: Michael at June 14, 2005 4:33 AMhmm...sounds tempting but I'm not feeling the urge for a marathon just yet, is there a half?
Posted by: Deene at June 14, 2005 7:14 AMvegas has two marathons. this is the first year that they'll run the one in december, and it runs along the strip. the december race is only a full marathon. the second marathon they run is in january and has various distances, but runs from the desert into town.
what we're planning to do, is for those rbf'ers that would like to run something other than the full marathon, and come out and support the racers, we'll host an rbf run on the saturday before the race. the rbf run will be complete with awards and all sorts of exciting stuff.
Posted by: jeff at June 14, 2005 7:18 AMI'm excited at the prospect of that. I'm hoping to make it. Too cool. Kirsten
Posted by: mid-pack mom at June 14, 2005 7:56 AMOh man, that sounds so cool, Jeff. No way I could make it though. Chances are I'll be unemployed by December and I'm not sure I could manage another marathon so soon after Detroit. Totally jealous of everyone that gets to go.
Posted by: Jon in Michigan at June 14, 2005 8:01 AMI think it sounds awesome! Checking for hotel/flights...there are lots of great package deals .... (ie. Edmonton to Vegas plus 2 nights hotel for $700?!?!)
Now I'll have to convince the better half that we need a December getaway ....
Posted by: beverly at June 14, 2005 11:04 AMDefinitely something to think about... that's really cool that you're planning all this! Who knows, maybe I will be healthy and prepared to kick some PR-butt! ;)
Posted by: Nanda at June 14, 2005 2:28 PMGreat idea, but I don't think I can make it this year, I'm already committed to a marathon in September and cash might be tight due to my wife getting layed off in the next couple weeks. You never know though...
Posted by: Jack at June 14, 2005 10:06 PMI'm already scheduled to be in Chicago that weekend. Geesh, I'm sorry to miss supporting the RBF...good for you for getting it going.
Posted by: susan at June 15, 2005 5:02 AMJust last week a few people I run with have talked about doing the vegas marathon ... more just for fun than anything ... sort of to end the running season with a bang or maybe bling bling. I am interested!
Posted by: Ali at June 15, 2005 7:19 AMSounds like a TON of fun! I won't be able to come, but I'm looking foward to living vicariously through you and those who do. I hope you have a great turnout!
