so, before i spill the news, let's flash back to a couple weeks ago:
i came into work on a monday morning and was welcomed by a flashing message light on my phone. i don't like message lights. that typically means something is wrong. i don't like it when things go wrong. i listened to the message, braced for the worst and was surprised by what i was hearing.
it was a contact i had made several years ago that was calling to check in and see how things were going, oh, and if i was interested he wanted me to come down and talk with he and his project manager about some opportunities that they had available.
well, i've been with my current company for about seven and a half years. for the first five or so years, the work was challenging and i was learning new things with every project i'd work on. but the last few years, which included a huge software package implementation, have been tough, stagnant and at times, downright depressing. so, while not actively looking for new work, i wasn't going to turn down an opportunity to see what else was available, especially if i was being pursued.
so, i interviewed with the contact and his project manager. and i was hooked. the new role includes working with a project team (i've been working solo for the majority of my programming career), working in a language that i've been dying to program in, and the kicker, a flexible schedule that would allow me to pursue my goal of coaching.
the interview went well and i received a call requesting a list of references. once provided, i started receiving feedback from my list, saying that they'd been called and what sort of questions they were being asked. shortly after, i received another call from their corporate recruiter asking to set up a second interview with their vp of hr and their cio. the call back went splendidly, and after spending quite some time with the cio and listening to his vision for the department, i knew i'd be very bummed if i didn't get an offer.
this was last friday. the recruiter ensured me i'd hear back either friday or monday at the latest. so, monday came and went. tuesday came and went. by the time i got home on wednesday, i still hadn't heard any word. blah.
over the past few days, my prayer has been that i would be broken to God's will for my life. if this was the route He wanted me to go, i asked for open doors. clear yes or no's. as i went for my run yesterday, i spent some more time praying about the situation. i came to terms with the possibility of staying where i currently am. giving up the idea of working for this new company was tough to do, but i had to accept that if i was to stay with my current job, i had to come to terms with that and continue to give 100% while here.
so, i got home after the run, cooled down, logged my miles and was getting ready to hop in the shower when my phone rang.
it was the corporate recruiter calling, with a job offer.
so, this morning, i've accepted the position and i start the new job on oct 10th. to say i'm excited is an understatement. now i have the lovely job of writing a resignation and weathering the coming storm. wish me luck!

I'm thrilled for you, but not surprised that you got the job. It sounds like you are *almost* as passionate about your career as you are about running....and energy like that is something that people want to be around.
Handshakes and hugs all around.

Wow, how great is that?
I'll pass under separate cover, but ending up in Connecticut was about as clear a sign from God (meant in the completely serious method) as one can get. Still trying to figure out why He wanted us up here, but it was clear he did...

Sorry so late with this. Sounds like super news. Resignation letter should be easy as pie. "I'm outta here!". :) Heh, heh. That'll be mine. ;)
Posted by: Jon in Michigan at September 24, 2005 7:20 PMHey Good Luck to you in the new challenge. I started working on a new team project at the college this past week that I'm really excited about - good coworkers, a better office, more money, and a chance of making some good changes in the organization. Life is good all over I guess.
