saturday was a day i'd been waiting for for quite some time. tim and i got to head out to the salton sea and explore what basically is a modern day ghost town. the whole southeast side of the lake was once a mecca for the hollywood elite and was supposed to be an alternative to vegas as the next spot to build multi-million dollar vacation homes, casinos and grand hotels. but something happened and marinas capable of handling 30 consecutive boat launches were abandoned and today, the lake and communities stand eerily quiet and deserted; an apocalyptical view of the lake, with lovecraftian images and enough strangeness to keep you looking over your shoulder in broad daylight. enjoy the bizarre and odd photos from the visit here.

Posted by: Jack at August 27, 2006 10:33 PMvery strange, yet fascinating. My favorites are the peeling painted windows and the TV.
Posted by: darrell at August 28, 2006 5:46 AMcreepy! now you've got me curious... gotta go look this place up...
Posted by: tracy at August 28, 2006 6:16 AMon a slightly windy day ghosts towns completely come to life topping a good movie. last month i stopped at one during a road trip thur Cisco Ut with my kid and niece. nothing beats to screaming girls in the back seat.
Posted by: deene at August 28, 2006 7:00 AMVery cool - I had never heard of it before. Nice pics!
Posted by: 21stCenturyMom at August 28, 2006 7:57 AMI love the pics. It looks like a scene from a movie. I wonder why it never became anything?
Posted by: ali at August 28, 2006 9:55 AMvery interesting. i went camping at the salton sea with my cubscout pack when i was in the third grade or so. it was teeming with boaters and the people camping around the lake made it like a tent city, if i remember correctly. it was a while back, perhaps 1962-63. i had hair then.
i don't remember why it came to naught.
I went to the Salton Sea a couple of times as a kid, in the 70's and 80's. It looked deserted even then. Nice pix.
Posted by: bex at August 30, 2006 11:37 AMooh, creepy.
You are the second review of Accelerade I have read. It seems to work very well but I am not sure I would be able to handle the "creamy" or thick texture...
spooky stuff!
