thanks to the many folks who have IM'ed and emailed their concerns about the hipster household. just so folks know, the nearest fire, the santiago fire, got it's closest on sunday night when it was stopped about five miles from our place. where we're situated, the fire would have to jump two freeways and come across quite a bit of land with little fuel to get to us. from there it burnt east through the foothills, but never jumped down into the flat between the mountains and the coastal hills. it's still snowing ash at our place, but we're quite safe. again, thanks for everyone's concern.
the santiago fire is currently at about 50% containment, but not before having burned through a good portion of the prime local trail running locations. as a result, jessica's twin peaks race might be in jeopardy. the kicker is that this fire is a result of arson. they found three ignition points along santiago canyon. what is with people?
smsmh and i went over our evacuation plan the other day, though, just to make sure we knew what to take and were ready to go if necessary. high on the list were the office computer and my laptop, for two reasons. first, all of our pictures from recent years are on the computer and my laptop (yes, they're backed up, too, but buried in the garage) and second, because all my friends are in the computer (joke courtesy of laurie).
i've been jonesing to run this week but have shelved the ideas because of the air quality. today, though, i said forget it and headed to back bay to knock out 7 miles. it felt great to get the legs going. i'm working hard not to fall off the wagon at this point and keep my miles up. the twin peaks 50 miler is only three months away! the run was awesome despite the orange sky and ashy snow falling. my lungs survived, too.
keep so. cal in your prayers. it's an ugly situation in arrowhead and san diego.
Posted by jeff at October 24, 2007 2:00 PMGlad you are safe!
My friends live in my computer too!
Posted by: Laurie at October 24, 2007 2:10 PMIt never occurred to me that you might be in jeopardy but I guess that's because I was focused on San Diego.
Be careful with that nasty air. It's no joke!
I'm glad you are okay, though.
Posted by: 21stCenturyMom at October 24, 2007 2:19 PMThat is bad, eh. Listen, I've got a spare room if you need it. The air is clear here. Come on.
Posted by: Robb at October 24, 2007 4:25 PMWhew! Thanks for the update on your situation.
Posted by: Juls at October 24, 2007 8:44 PMGlad to hear you guys are OK!
Posted by: Dawn at October 25, 2007 4:26 AMI've been thinking about you too, Jeff. I'm glad to hear you're doing well.
And those pics below this post are terrific!
Posted by: Mark at October 25, 2007 10:38 AMThanks for your note, jeff...so glad you are safe...and what a disaster there. My sister in San Diego has been keeping me posted too. Very smart to have your evacuation plan set.
Posted by: Joe at October 26, 2007 6:23 PMI was thinkin' about you, what with the DC-10's bombing the hillsides, and nowhere for the Hip tribe to go but down to the beach.
Posted by: jank at October 27, 2007 7:58 PMI'm so glad you and your family are OK! It's so scary watching it on TV here that being that close to it must be terrifying! Glad you have a plan of action and that the fires seem to be staying away.
God bless,
Heidi
PS I didn't know if my e-mail would show or not, so I just put a fake one :) You have my real one, hey, I'm a privacy freak, or just a freak :P What can I say?!
Posted by: Heidi formerly of WCHS at October 28, 2007 11:14 PMHi Sweetie, WOW - I never thought the fire was any where near you. So glad it's not!! Aunt Margie was evacuated in Santa Clarita, as well as was Billy and Julie. The Agua Dulce fire is what almost took them out. All are back home safely - Praise the Lord!
The pics of TC are so cute. Hard to believe he's now 5 months old. Is he roling over on his own yet? We miss him and his sweet face. See you soon!!
Love, Mamacita :)
