running with dante

thanks to the many folks who have IM'ed and emailed their concerns about the hipster household.   just so folks know, the nearest fire, the santiago fire, got it's closest on sunday night when it was stopped about five miles from our place.  where we're situated, the fire would have to jump two freeways and come across quite a bit of land with little fuel to get to us.  from there it burnt east through the foothills, but never jumped down into the flat between the mountains and the coastal hills.  it's still snowing ash at our place, but we're quite safe.  again, thanks for everyone's concern.

the santiago fire is currently at about 50% containment, but not before having burned through a good portion of the prime local trail running locations.  as a result, jessica's twin peaks race might be in jeopardy.  the kicker is that this fire is a result of arson.  they found three ignition points along santiago canyon.  what is with people?

smsmh and i went over our evacuation plan the other day, though, just to make sure we knew what to take and were ready to go if necessary.  high on the list were the office computer and my laptop, for two reasons.  first, all of our pictures from recent years are on the computer and my laptop (yes, they're backed up, too, but buried in the garage) and second, because all my friends are in the computer (joke courtesy of laurie).

i've been jonesing to run this week but have shelved the ideas because of the air quality.  today, though, i said forget it and headed to back bay to knock out 7 miles.  it felt great to get the legs going.  i'm working hard not to fall off the wagon at this point and keep my miles up.  the twin peaks 50 miler is only three months away!  the run was awesome despite the orange sky and ashy snow falling.  my lungs survived, too.

keep so. cal in your prayers.  it's an ugly situation in arrowhead and san diego.

our big pumpkin

smsmh and i took tc to the local pumpkin patch (read carpark with straw, pumpkins and really bad carinval rides) to pick out a pumpkin and take advantage of the photo ops.  below are the results of the trip
