Time

It's time. The shins still aren't great, but I've been scheduling runs a couple of days apart lately to ease into the several-runs-per-week goal, and they've held up ok. A little painful, and I know I'm going to have days where I'll need to skip a planned run and do something else, but I think they're well enough to give them a little push rather than pussy-footing. So, less walking days and more running days, starting this week.

I've been a little slack lately. I've been skimping on the cycling, and I've been having too many "off" days where I choose to stay up late, then sleep in and miss a workout. I've been feeling the effects when I do run - my run on Wednesday didn't include a discussion on running music selections because one foot in front of the other was about my limit - so it's time to get my sleep schedule back on track.

The sleep is where it's at.

Wednesday afternoon was a nice starter, even if I was death warmed up. Tomorrow morning, 5:30ish as I head out the door, it's time to get serious.

Just a Normal Guy. Really.

It occurred to me just now as I sit at work listening to Phantom of The Opera while churning out programming code, surrounded by other programmers, that my colleagues are all weird. Phantom of The Opera should not be subjected to cheap-ass $4 K-Mart headphones.

Meh. Their loss.

I'm running with a friend after work this afternoon, and will be discussing ideas for running tunes that suit our tastes. Obviously Phantom won't make an appearance on that list - we'll be looking for some selections that are a litle more upbeat. I think I'll put it on repeat until then, however. I'm just in that kind of mood.

Sick and Tired

I haven't been well this past week, and as a precaution the boss sent me home early on Wednesday for the rest of the week off. Everything else is something of a blur. The last 4 or 5 afternoons I've passed out on the couch, exhausted, yet with no real reason to be. Sleeping during the day hasn't stopped me from falling asleep instantly when I lay down at night, thankfully, but it would have been nice to make use of the extra hours.

Despite all that, I ran this morning. I was feeling okay, and it had been a week since my last run, so I figured I should try to do something. My shins played up, but I made it home strong after giving them a few minutes rest. About 2 hours later I passed out on the couch for 3 hours or so.

Even with the extra spare time at home, I haven't had the energy to even write a blog entry. Today I made two. Guess I'm getting better. I'm not there yet, though. Perhaps an easy weekend will do the trick so I'm back on track next week.

Competition!

I'm late, I know. The new year has begun almost a week ago, and with it's beginning come new decisions for many of us. For me, a couple of goal dates have passed, and I came close enough to them that I'm happy enough with the results.

I've decided from now on that I'm not going to log my walking anymore. It's enough to know that it's helping to improve my shins. Beyond that, there's really no reason for me to track it.

I've also decided that I'm going to make life easier and start using things other than song references for my blog titles. And, I figure that's worth celebrating with a competition! So, here it is : I posted nineteen blog entries before the new year. Can you name all nineteen songs?

Get all of them right, and you could win the title of "Chunkybits Ultimate Groovemeister, 2005".
Or something not as good.
