Speedwork is my least favourite work out each week, this year especially with the heat, plus I am not fast and don't seem to get any faster. So I was very excited when I saw we had circuit training this week.
5 laps of 400m track to warm up, stretch
Then the workout was ....
station 1: 400m at 5k race pace
station 2: 25 proper push up (no wimpy girl ones)
station 3: 100m sprint
station 4: 50 proper sit ups (no crunches allowed)
station 5: run backwards the length of the football field
station 6: run the length of the football field, with hands on head and knees up
station 6: 25m of lunges (knee to ground)
station 7: run 4 flights of stairs up and down each one
repeat 4 times
I loved this workout, it was hard but fun. The last circuit of lunges I looked like I was drunk! When it was all done I felt energized. Until 6am this morning when the alarm went off and I had to get up to meet D and P for a 7am run. OUCH! I didn't realize there were so many muscles in your legs that could all hurt at the same time.
I did the run this morning, a wonderful 50 degrees outside, love it love it love it! It was a lot of ah ewe ouch, whine whine whine for the first few ks but overall good run, 3.2 miles just under 30 minutes. Legs feel better now, but I am taking every elevator and escolator I find!

wow, that circuit training sounds challenging! and conagrats on pulling off the morning run after the previous night's hard workout.
walk, though! skip the elevator and escalator! keeping those muscles moving will help them recover faster.
um..... ouch?! who do you train with?!
Holy Cow! That's some workout...mind if I rip it off and try it sometime?
EEK! I can't believe I just said that...
to answer the who do I train with question ... an evil sadistic cult, who have shares in wheelchair companies and are trying to profit by getting me into one!
Actually, it's a marathon training group with a local running store, about 150 of us in the group, 70 are going to chicago in October. The coach has run 70 ish marathons and had a PB at boston of 2.36. There are four levels, boston bond, hoping to be boston bond, have run at least 1 marathon, and the likes of me, running their first marathon.
They are awesome, incredibly supportive and yes sometimes evil!
This sounds like such a great workout, I just called my local highschool to find out when I could use their track!
"When it was all done I felt energized."
All I could think is that there's NO WAY I would feel energized after a workout like that! Especially doing that backwards run on the football field. I'd look drunk do that.
Very nice, Ali! That's a cool circuit.
OMG!! That sounds so evil and fun at the same time. If it helps any, walk backward when you have to take the stairs. second Jeff's advice, keep the muscles moving to help with healing.
