it's snowing

It started about an hour ago as light flakes that melt when they land, now everything is white. It does look picture postcardish. I clearly remember saying during those hot humid horrid days only a few months ago how much I love winter running ... I guess I will be finding out if that's true very very soon.

Okay, an update, so I have been working out, running abit, working and reading. I've been hitting the cardio machines at the gym three mornings a week at 6am - agh! Then two evenings and Saturday it's weights. I haven't run much (3 times in the last 10 days) my ITB and hip are rebelling against me, resting them as much as possible so they are ready for Jan 5 the start of winter training. Eating is going well ... although I did have take out Pad thai last night ... oh it was divine!

Now for what I am reading .. or should I say obsessing about. I went to Chapters and bought A Million Little Pieces on Tuesday evening. It is Oprah pick this month, I have never really liked any of Oprah's book club choices, I have read some but most I never finish, they just don't grab me. Anyway, a couple friends are raving about her latest selection, so I read the first page, that's the test, if I like the first page. It passed the test so I bought it. Went to bed at 10.30, thought I'll read for 20 minutes, at 12, I was like, 5 more minutes ... I literally can't put it down! I am surviving on very little sleep this week, about 4 - 5 hours a night because I am obessed with this book.

well my boss is happy

Turns out if I don't blog or read blogs I am really quite productive at work! I actually get work done. Over the last few months I forgot that's what I was getting paid to do.

The workouts are going well, I did cardio this morning and yesterday (35 minutes both days) and last night did upper body weighs and abs. The coffee situation is not looking promising, I had two this morning, actually three if you saw the size of the mug I use!

There is a very large basket of chocolate in the office at the moment (wipe drool from face). So to keep from eating all of it I am going to list what I have consumed today ... also this helps me remember ... I have a habit of remembering somethings like an apple, but strangley forget that I ate a bag of chips ... hmmmm

egg white omelete with tablespoon of cheese and salsa, sm glass of OJ
2 very large coffees
6 almonds
1 apple
mix green salad w pumpkin seeds, cucumber and olives. 1 cup of pasta with mushroom and ground turkey

I feel a bit lost ...

I have been meaning to make a posting for a couple weeks ... but then I get distracted by .... the tv .... chocolate ... the phone ... the tv ... It's not like I haven't been running I have (although not as much as I though I would be). I think without the big marathon goal to train and obsess about I feel a bit lost at the moment.

It won't be long til the winter group starts again, 2 little ole months, and really I should be enjoying this down time, but I know myself to well, if I slack off a little, then soon I'll be running once a week, I'll have gained 40 pounds and a 5k will seem like a long run! So I need a plan to keep me motivated, off the couch and away from the chocolate!

This is my new weekly schedule

Monday
AM - 40 minutes cardio at the gym
PM - upper body weight workout

Tuesday
AM - 40 minutes cardio at the gym
PM - lower body weight workout

Wednesday
PM - 5 mile run

Thursday
AM - 40 minutes cardio at the gym
PM - upper body weight workout

Friday (TGIF)
OFF

Saturday
4 miles run
Full body weight workout

Sunday
Long run (10 - 12 miles)

I did it last week, all except Tuesday PM workout ... there was a beer with my name on it :) ... and it wasn't too bad at all, in fact I enjoyed the variety ... not crazy about doing cardio at the gym, feel trapped and bored. So everything was going great until yesterday's long run, about 2 miles into it I got little spasm pains in my right hip/butt. By mile 5, it was more of a constant pain, the last 3 miles of the run were just horrible, not sure what I've done, but going to have a massage tomorrow to sort it out!

Along with the new exercise plan I am also trying to eat better and smaller portions. I decided to give up coffee last week, I cracked Monday at 8.22am ... I have had at least two a day ... I love coffee, sometimes on long morning runs I dream about the coffee I am going to have at the end of the run ... I don't think I can give up the coffee. I have started having Green Tea in the afternoon, it gives me a little energy boost.
