the grinch stole it
I need an intervention.
Not like an Amy Winehouse intervention, although if you are reading this Amy, get some help.
Nope, I need an intervention to start me running again. Like really running. Not these token runs I've been putting in each week. These token runs that I do, not because I miss running or want to go, no, these runs are done by guilt. Gulit generated runs. The guilt isn't even that great. It's single digit mile guilt.
Not that long ago I was able to run everyday. Every single fringing day. I did that. How? I seriously wonder how I did that!
At first, this little hiatus, was a well earned rest after a long training season. Then a few extra weeks to rest an injury. Now, well now it has simply become a new decadent way of life that I have adapted to incredibly easily.
I keep thinking I'll wake up and crave running. Be desperate for a fix, that runners high.
It's not happening.
I need some motivation.

Sign up for a race. A 10K or something, or challenge someone who's a little faster than you to a race a couple of months down the road.
Buy new running gear. That always makes me want to run. Wait, why do you want to run again?

Have you considered just becoming one with a giant bag of m&m's instead?

don't make me do that thing that you know i'll do if you don't get out there and run. you know, the THING. the THING you dread most of all. don't make me do it. i don't WANT to do it, but if you don't run, i'll be forced to.

find the old post that talks about your favorite training run. Mine's a slow 3 miler to the lake and back. Fine yours and do it. Do it at an enjoyable pace. Your's might be to your favorite coffee house for a cup of joe and then a run back home. Do the funnest run you can think of.
When I don't want to run, it's usually because I'm putting too much pressure on running longer or faster. Just go out and enjoy the run.

Sign up for a race. Preferably a big one with lots of people and excitement. Does it for me every time.

Running with the Buffaloes, by Lear. i read a lot of it with cheesecake in one hand, but it was still a great book on the motivation front! :)

I ran today despite the rain...I ran, and if I can run you can run. There. How's that for an intervention? Don't make me get on the 401!

I was off for two weeks - until today. I got a box of Balance cookie dough flavored energy bars last night, I think that had a lot to do with it. That, and there was a fast holiday music mix I wanted to try out.
I liked to energy bars more than the music, but still.

I am totally with you. I haven't been motivated to run since the end of October. :(

You guys are awesome!
I was secretly hoping someone would tell me to take a year off, offer me a large sum of money to travel and entertain you with wild stories ... I am still open to that idea!
I am going Christmas shopping today so maybe I'll get myself a cute motivation running outfit!

Running is fun - why wouldn't you want to run?
Fair enough, down here we never have to run in snow and minus C temps, but I'd find some way - even a treadmill!
Count in kilometres - it's easy to get double digits then - no need to feel Gulity ;)
