My foot has been bothering me for months. So long I can barely remember when it started. I think it was during the last few weeks of 100 days of consecutive running, sometime in September. It hurt during the Grand Rapids Marathon, but I was heavily ibuprophen'd up, and I kept chanting that once this was over I would never have to run again, ever.

The pain started in my heel. It hurt to land on my heel. So I've been landing on the outside of my right foot. For a while. Like four months. The outside edge of my right foot is pretty pissed off.

I didn't run much in November and December, it seemed to get better. When I started training again in January, as the miles increased so did the pain. I got some xrays done, but nothing came of that. I kept running, cause well, I think if I ignore it, it will just go away. It hurt more after running, normally after a few miles it felt okay, that was until last week, when running became painful.

So I took 4 days off. I ran yesterday, and it hurt. Then yesterday afternoon it got worse. This morning I got up to do my 16 mile long run and couldn't walk on it.

I didn't run.

It's frustrating, but I think I know the ignoring isn't working.

oh boy. that no sound good hon. have that checked out.

sucks that its giving you issues!! :o(

This does not sound good... and an x-ray showed nothing? How long ago was that? Maybe get them redone now? Don't they say that stress fractures often don't show up until they've started to heal? Or is it like PF pain?

Ooooofff... I think it's time you switched off your stubborn-I'm-a-runner switch and got it checked out before it's really, really serious... ;)

oh I usually go the ignore route too..sometimes it works and sometimes not. I hope you find out something soon...I know Runner's World has had a number of articles on heel pain for what that's worth.

OH damn. Well at least you are making progress (figuring out what you are doing isn't working). I hope you get some answers real quick. My hub has this too and he can't figure it out.

Have you tried wearing one of those PF braces at night? The thing that resembles a boot and it keeps your foot flexed to relieve heel pain? I suffered from stress fractures in all my toes of the left foot while training for Chicago last year and they didn't show on X-ray until they had begun to heal (about 5 weeks after the fractures happened). I knew what they were though, b/c I've been oh so lucky as to have previous stress fractures!

If you're in to taking meds, what about a cortisone shot or Prednisone steroid pac? Not good for long term use, but short term they work wonders.
