first week of not running

Here is what I've learned in my first week of non-running

1. What seems like a lifetime on an eliptical trainer, in real time is actually 3 minutes 27 seconds.
2. When you are having a tough run, you still have to get back, you either suck it up or walk. At the gym you simply get off the machine.
3. I am better in a class, where I feel trapped for an hour and can't leave
4. 3 cycle classes in one week, makes you wonder what sadistic bastard designed the seat.
5. Your appetite does not decrease with your decrease in mileage.
6. It is really difficult to do cardio and not use your foot.
7. CNN repeat the same information 457 times each hour.
8. Wearing tights to run makes you look like a runner, wearing them at the gym makes you look like a freak.
9. I like the variety of cycling, cardio machines, swimming, weights, yoga and pilates
10. No matter how fast the cute guy runs on the treadmill he is still within reach

C.L.A.S.S.I.C. P.O.S.T. Loved it and can totally relate to the 3 minutes and 29 seconds and also to just getting off the damn machine. I'll drive home, thank you. Hang in there.

I fully support each and every item on that list. So True!

oh this good! and now sadly, that i too am in the gym more than i am running, i can attest to every single one! (actually, except for the CNN one, our gym doesn't have TV's!).

#2 is just one more reason why I can't run on a treadmill. Even the slightest annoyance or boredom and I just turn it off and go back upstairs.

I was actually going to post this response here, and then I just saw your question.

I can remember WAY back before I started even running, where I thought the elliptical was the devil and could only go MAYBE 5 MINUTES.

I started on it when i had to cross train due to injury. and of course i was able to go a bit longer but it took me doing it in 5 min increments of adding on to those 20 min.

my trick now is the awesome djsteveboy podcasts ... it keeps you at a fast paced stride and its one long song which they are all pretty cool. i zone out, and the hour goes by quickly for me.

it will just take some time but for runners its the best cross training in my opinion!!

You got through the week with some amazing lessons learned! Wonder what this week will bring?...Hang in there.

8. Wearing tights to run makes you look like a runner, wearing them at the gym makes you look like a freak.

OMMMMMGGG dying

I can agree with all of those comments, especially the one about wearing tights at the gym. Hang in there!

And I wasted all this time learning how to run fast just to keep cute girls within reach.

Love the last one... ;) Is your gym at least full of some serious eye-candy?!

And WHY is it that the people on the treadmills at the gym are wearing long pants, tshirts and fleeces that are ZIPPED UP?!?! Here I come, overjoyed to be inside where it's 68 rather than 18, the only one in the entire place wearing shorts and a sleeveless top? Day 1 at the gym (also forced in and off the roads by injury), I pulled up in the parking lot at oh-dark-thirty and thought "crap - the heat must be broken inside". I'm just a HUSSY - showing flesh at the gym!
