The other night I was at the video store with a friend, while in line they grabbed a bag of microwave popcorn.
"I don't own a microwave"
"What?" perplexed look of shock and horror "How do you make popcorn?"
"I don't"
The video store guy asks if we found everything we were looking for, my friend informs him of my lack of microwave. More shock and horror.
I know this is astonishing to many people. I haven't had one since I moved back to Canada from England 6ish years ago. My mother really can't understand it. She has tried on numerous occasions to let her buy one for me. I refuse. It not the money. I just think the are big and ugly, they take up room and I would only ever use it to make popcorn. Plus I like to cook ... not heat or nuke, I enjoy waiting for water to boil.
There is a microwave at work.
This morning after 3 hits of the snooze button I didn't have time to make breakfast, normally I would grab a bagel at the drive-thru, but inspired by the Biggest Loser I decided to make oatmeal at work.

As well as not owning a microwave I also do not read instructions. So I guestimated on the amount of water and time it takes to make oatmeal. After 2 minute, it still seemed watery, so I gave it another 1 minute. Do you know what happened in 60 short seconds.
My breakfast turned into an oatmeal bomb.
There was oatmeal everywhere. I don't have a microwave and apparantely I shouldn't be allowed to have one either. Drive-thru is so much easier.
** update on le foot **
Sunday I ran just over 4 miles, which felt good. Then Monday I was on the elliptical at lunch and my foot started to twinge. It was on and off, kinda like it's way of giving me a dirty look cause it is pissed off at me. Yesterday morning it was very tender, so I've decided not to run until Saturday morning if it feels better by then.

I do have a microwave, but I ONLY use it for popcorn! Kind of a waste of space. Plus, you can buy those air popper things if you really want popcorn.
You don't own a microwave? <-Even more shock and horror.
I didn't think that Amish people were allowed to blog?
Sidenote: I'll add your 5K time to my results sometime soon.
We are allowed to have blogs - it just takes a long time to upload after I've typed in all out on my typewriter.
Good idea on the foot, rest and ice would help. And just let me say, OH MY - I eat oatmeal every day, 2/3 cup water, 1:30 minutes in the microwave, no longer!
Hmm...I need to give this oatmeal thing a try. I have a microwave just no oatmeal.
Oatmeal can be very good from the microwave if you know what you are doing. :P
I do lots of leftovers in there. Also baked potatoes in a pinch. Not trying to convince you, I'm just sayin. :D
Nancy, have you been speaking to my mother?
I too have often been the victim of the oatmeal bomb! It's like I just don't learn...
The oatmeal bomb happens to me every stinking time I make a bowl . . . I can't seem to get it right!

i have a microwave oven but it came with the house so i only use it to heat a cup of water. i prefer to make popcorn in a pan on the stove - it tastes better!
