girls on tour road trip part two
There is something I love about training for a Fall marathon.
Even though I hate running through the long hot days of summer, when I think there is just no way I'll be able to do it, run 26.2 miles. There will come a point sometime in September, when the heat will be replaced with fresh cool air. It's like breaking through a barrier. Exploding out of a coccoon.
That's my favourite moment in training. When sweat and self doubt are replaced goose bumps and belief.
This year, Fall marathon plans have reached a whole new level of awesomeness. If running 26.2 miles isn't enough to get your party pants on, well we have confirmation that our Ottawa Girls on Tour will reunite and take it state side.
I'm starting to get excited about my Fall marathon.
I've decided to change my plans for running this weekend. I was going to do the 8k race on Sunday instead of running long, but I feel I need the distance. With not running long this winter due to injury I really feel my lack of endurance. Since February, I've run over 10 miles once. My legs were not happy last Sunday, the last mile was brutal. Mentally this screws me. So, I will run long, 12 miles Saturday morning, then watch the race with coffee in hand on Sunday.
This fabulous plan also means ...
a) I can drink Saturday night
b) sleep in Sunday morning

sounds like a good plan to me ali! i hear you on training for fall marathons, isn't it the best? but i would agree as well that at the beginning of the summer its a little hard to grasp running that far after getting a bit sore following a 13 or 14-miler. amazing what the body can do after a 3 or 4 months of training though eh??? good stuff.

I too enjoy the coolness of fall during my runs. On the other hand, being that I am wanting to lose some weight again, the steamy hotness of summer helps me lose that. With that thought in mind, it helps me push through the hot miles.

I'm with you on this one.
I was thinking of doing the 4th 5K here on Friday...but Friday is my day off from anything remotely training, and my long run is 12 miles on Saturday. And its gonna suck to begin with...
Plus if I do the race then that means no beer at the Astros game the night before?? Huh?
Plus i looked at last years women in my new age group and basically I would be like 30th place...and thats if I could match my 5K PR from April when it was 50 deg and no humidity instead of 80 deg with 80% humidity.
yeah, ice Sbux and for me to watch all the yahoos... :)
