what do you think ...
The following is based on a true story. Names, places and identifiable details have been changed to protect the innocent and the stupid.
I have a 'friend' who was considering dating a guy. The guy is not her type. Since her type has not been working out, she thought she would fish in a different pond.
After a few dates, she realized that although he wasn't her type, they got along great, they had lots in common. Once she got him running, he would be 'hot' and they might live happily ever after.
Then the other night he stopped by. He was chewing tobacco.
Yes, that's right, chewing tobacco! Let me just clarify, he is not a Major League Baseball player.
While at her house, he continued to chew, until he needed to spit. He asked for a pop can. She refused and told him how disgusting this was. So he got up. He opened the front door. He spat on the front path.
So I ask you ...
Is he disgusting?
or
As a host, should our poor single gal have provided a spit pail?
I was going to include a picture, but when I googled chewing tobacco, the images made me hurl. On the plus side, I am down 2 pounds and am contemplating having fries with lunch.

Ugh. That's a deal breaker for me. Would this "friend" want to kiss that dirty mouth??

Ugh, it is a disgusting habit, therefore that makes him disgusting.

Unless his name was Jason Varitek, I'd be showing him the door.

I'll take "disgusting" for $100 Alex.
Spitting itself is horrid, spitting in public and in front of girls is STUPID.

MissAlly .. NO .. I just hurled again
Mousearoo ... I see your Jason Varitek and raise you a Johnny Damon.

I would have shown him where he could have spit it and kicked him to the curb.

Dealbreaker. Nuff said.

Absolutely nasty. What a greaser.

Chewing tobacco is just gross, but I went out with a guy in college who did this. The deal breaker for me would be that he showed lack of respect for your friend.

Are you kidding me? He spit on the front walk? That is a deal breaker. Big time. Not only is it disgusting, it's rude.

I caught my now husband, chewing one time...he knew my thoughts on it well ahead of time. So instead of saying anything, I acted like I didn't noticed and left the room. I mentioned it a few weeks later and the utter embarrassment of being caught at something he promised to not do, has hence forth prevented that from occuring again.
I could not deal with that...it's just toooooooooooo gross.

So did YOU, I mean your friend, end it with this guy. I already committed to date #2 with Mr. Average. oh well.
Posted by: P.O.M. at June 20, 2008 6:44 PM
At one point in time I would have not seen the problem. Yes, I once was satisfied with just a pinch between the cheek and gum.
Now days I refrain from any and all tobacco products.
Find someone who does not use and I think you will be on a better path to finding "Mr. Right"
Ooops, I mean tell your freind.

Umm gross. Chewing and smoking is one of my pet peves. A friend of mine is trying to set me up with a guy she knows and we were out last night (2nd time with him) and I noticed a wear mark in his back pocket from what I presume to be a chew can. Gross. I don't know if I can pursue the relationship. As far as your friend's potential BF, I think he is not all that great and she shouldn't settle! :)

If this friend is looking for long-term, does she plan to be there for him when he gets mouth and tongue cancer? Ick!
