ok. as mentioned before, i'm at week 6 of my marathon training. so to *quickly* update you (i tend to be rather long-winded. i apologize in advance) let me dive right into the tales of my first 6 weeks of training.
but actually, pre-story, let me just say before i started this whole marathon business, the farthest i'd ever run was 3 miles.... 3 miles everyday for the spring semester of my sophomore year.... in highschool....some 9 years ago. so when i say "i'm not a runner" this is no exaggeration. i dont run. ever. or... didnt, i suppose.
so... week one. week one was comprised of, mostly, a lot of hobbling around due to some very large blisters located on the inside of my feet (yes. both feet. matching blisters... it was. well, stupid, really) so week TWO i found out all about types of feet and running shoes... and new vocab words too... like pronation, plantar fascitis, and supination . i went to Gary Gribbles Runing store and was told, to my surprise, i over-pronate when i walk (for those not "in the know", heh, this means i have super flat feet and my ankle rolls inward when i step.) so i bought some Asics GT-2100 running shoes.... white and grey with some fun yellow accents. i rule.
this, for the most part, fixed my whole blister issue. i was quite pleased...
week three, four, five and six has since then just been me... running. although, its not really that simple. (is it ever?!)
come to find out, i am about the slowest runner i ever met. in supreme dorkiness i have been reading a lot about running and marathon training and have found that the average person runs a 10 minute mile. HA! apparently, i ain't average. to my dismay, it takes me well over said time to complete a mile. something i'm not all too proud of... so the past few weeks have consisted of me timing, in slight obsessive-complusive nature, my weekly runs (of which there are 3... soon to be four)....
this has been helpful... in a "yep, i was right, i run slow" kind of way... but i've been told by many a "runner" that as i get stronger (legs and lungs) i will just naturally run faster... so "dont push it, or you'll get injured"... good advice, right? i mean.. makes sense.
am i going to follow it? oh puh-leeease. of course not.
but so, to finish up this little update... i have, to date, run 69 miles. the longest of which was last weekend.... my first 10 miler, that i clocked at just over 2 hours. ("just" being 11 minutes. but shhhhh!!!) i run, per TNT schedule, 2 days during the week, 3-4 miles (which will slowly increase to 4-6 miles) and have one long run, with the team, saturday mornings.
and so all this brings you up-to-date. from here on out i will do my best to post on the days i run, giving you all my distance/time/pace stats so that i may be properly ridiculed...er uh... encouraged, in my journey towards the marathon.
