::sigh::

so timing of the new blog title couldnt be any more ironic...

why?! because little miss runner pants, she ain't runnin. and i never thought i'd ever live to hear myself say this... but...

i miss it.

::sigh::

i was ignoring the fact that i can't run. i've been killing myself at the gym, lifting, ellipticalling, and biking. and its been working...mostly. but today, after Stripe Shirt Girl and Tall Blonde emailed about the upcoming Half Marathon we all talked about running, i just couldn't ignore it anymore...

they emailed about running schedules. meeting up on saturday to do a TNT Alumni run.... getting together to run the Gobbler Grind and... well.... i miss it!

it's beautiful out. amazing weather. colorful leaves. crisp air. everyday i drive onto Post and pass runner after runner, and i think to myself... that should be me!!! that should be me out there, being all runner-esque. i have to hold myself back from rolling down the window and yelling at them "i ran a marathon!!!" with a big dumb grin... i dont know why i feel the need to mention that to every runner i pass...EVER.. but i do. (sheepish grin!!)

but alas. running just ain't in the books. i was on the elliptical (the first vertical cardio i've attempted since the M'thon) and after 15 minutes i could feel my knee acting up. i immediately dismounted, stretched, and headed to the bike.

stupid knee. i've been icing. and stretching. and... glaring at it a lot, so as to scare it into submission.

somehow it just hasn't quite gotten the hint.

::double sigh::

ah well. i'll give it another week, and then... THEN, off to a physical therapist with me! or a sports massage therapist!! or... or a surgeon for crying out loud, cuz, serious.... i just wanna run!

I know it's hard right now, but the pain will pass. Patience is really the best way to deal with this kind of injury. If you rush your recovery now you'll just have even more downtime later.

So it's true! It IS possible to run a difficult first marathon and still want to run. That is just what I was hoping to hear you say. How horrible it would be for a marathon to discourage someone from running anymore. Good to hear you're working out as you can.

Sounds like you got a running bug! :0) I'm sure you'll be running soon. Just don't go out to soon. We don't want to hear about you injuring yourself even more, and being sidelined even longer. Because that's just no fun!

Hang in there!!! Your recovery and healing will be well worth it once you do hit the running again!

Good luck on your recovery. Patience is the key to success. It's good that you keep active on so many other levels. The cross-training will help you to be a terrific runner.

The rule of thumb is one day of recovery for each mile of a race. Sometimes recovery means easy running, sometimes not. You'll do fine.BTW - you can set Blogger to email your post to yourself, by doing that, you have a copy to re-post if you delete one. PS - I really enjoyed the pics.

Haha... "glaring at it"! You are so funny.I've been good for runs lasting about an hour. I've been doing yoga/stretching, but also using a tennis ball to apply pressure to where the ITBand connects to the top of my leg. lay on the floor with the tennis ball between you and the floor and roll around over your hip/glute area. It hurts like hell, but it must be working. Take care. Glad to see some new posts. :)

We'll start a "Not Running, Running Blog Family Club". You and I will be the charter members. :)

Hey pants, Injuries do heal. And do NOT go to a surgeon. There are almost no running injuries for which surgery is the answer (only makes things worse). One of the cardinal rules of running is "avoid the knife".What you want to do is go see Dale Wheeler. He's the owner of "The Massage Professionals" in Lenexa. His phone is 913-908-0985.Last Spring I had an ITB flare-up in my right knee. With Dale's help I was able to continue training for my marathon (and I had pain so bad I could hardly walk after one of my runs, but I cut mileage for a few weeks, did lots of stretching, and had a few appointments with Dale). He's great and does a lot of work with runners.Tell him Kurt Winikka sent you.[I may be "Kurt from Boston", but I just moved here from the Kansas City area.]
