2 miles. done and done.
#1 i enjoy running. i need to remember not to forget that. today was kinda fun. and having the tv to watch while running is really not that bad of a thing.
#2 i have decided on a when and where for M2
#3 i'm about 90% sure Chicago Guy and i are going to train for a sprint triathlon together.
#3.5 .....#3 freaks me out because i have no idea what i will be getting myself into. its something i've wanted to do for a while but never ever ever verbalized, because if "i am not a runner"...then...i sure as shit am not a triathlete. that much we can ALL be certain. and even more so than a "runner"...there's something about being a triathlete. hell, theres something about being a triathlete in training that i dont know if i have in me.
scratch that. that i dont know if i'm ready to be.... there's a lot of holy shit holy shit holy shit involved with #3, because when i do something, i do it 100%.... and its not that i don't respect marathoner's (because quite obviously i do) but tri'people are on this whole other level that... honestly, i dont even know about. i wouldnt know how to begin. i wouldnt know how to TRY to begin.
so. #3 creates a bit of a stomach flop, small eye-fluid leak (NO. not crying. its different), and a step into a world that in all honesty, i'm just intimidated by.
(whew. didn't know i was going to admit to #3... or #3.5 today. wonder what that means?!)

well. you were scared of the marathon, right? and you did it. you survived.the tri will be no different....except for having to worry about more gear, it will still be mostly a test of will power and determination...and some endurance. which you already have ALL of.So take a deel breath and get ready to enjoy the ride! And just wait until you get to meet the woman-triathlete on the other side. You won't be disappointed!

It means you are looking to us to make you accountable for continuing on this path of discovery! :) Now you're committed (not should be, but are).

"because when i do something, i do it 100%...."That's all you need to be a triathlete! Best of luck!

As both a "runner" and a "triathlete," I would have to say that honestly, being a runner is way more difficult than being a triathlete.I have a much harder time training for a running race than a triathlon. Running is harder on your body, you get injured much more easily, and quite frankly, sometimes running can be...eh...boring.You will LOVE the multi-sport thing. I can guarantee it. If you do it once, you will not go back to being a "runner." Those runners are way too tough. :)

nice song today! awesome about the tri. that's totally how i felt when i signed up for my first sprint. just pressed the 'submit' button (it's just TOO easy to do things like that nowadays!), and immediate panic resulted. but, you'll do it, and you'll rock!

Running Chick forgot about the whole "not forgetting to drown" thing during the swim. That's signficantly different. You'll have to keep me informed about what triathlon you decide to do. I haven't totally settled in on mine, though a local one is most likely.I lost a few training days to the new baby, and figure I'll lose some more in the coming weeks. But I will master 600 yards of swimming and finish this first event.

i'm with tough cookie, having been both a 'runner' and 'TRIer'... the cross-training aspect of triathlon can not be downplayed.also, i applaud your considering a triathlon, and a sprint distance which if you can marathon, i believe is in you to accomplish.other thought, is to see if there is a TRY-a-TRI or a Super-Sprint distance... all the fun of TRI, half the calories.

you people are killing me. if you keep telling me i can do it, i'm going to start believing you, and then i'm going to try to do a tri, and most likely will... get my foot tangled in some random root floating up from the bottom of the lake (or wherever i'm swimming) or the chain will fall off of my bike (that i dont own. remember..mine was stolen!) or..... my shoe laces will come undone (i couldnt think of anything for that one....)ACK!. ok. so. off i go.... buying a swim cap this weekend... good grief....

Having been a tri-guy years ago, all I can say is: #1 Work on what doesn't come naturally to you the most. If you're not the best swimmer, schedule more swim time, etc.#2 Have fun.

i just had to comment because the little word verification thing says "elholdm." heh..it's like spanish.i ride with several different triathletes, who always try to encourage me to give it a shot, but given my history, i think the first step would probably be...well...learing to swim. then learning to enjoy running, of course. dude, you don't have me in your links anymore. i'm hurt.

Ok, here's how dumb I am: What's a sprint tri? How is it different from a regular tri? Do you SPRINT the whole thing? Cuz that would be, um, like really HARD.Whatever, of COURSE you can do it! Your mom still has your swim cap!!You rock.

Maria,You *can* do it. Next we'll be hearing from you that you want to do a Olympic distance, then a Half, then maybe the full anchelada?Jeanne,A sprint tri is just a reference to the distance.http://tinyurl.com/d8w5r "A triathlon with a distance of approximately .5-mile swim, 12-mile bike, and 3-mile run. Generally run on paved roads unless otherwise specified."Then there is Olympic, about twice a sprint, then Half which is half an Ironman, then Ironman. Ironman is 2.4 mile swim, 112 bike, and then a Marathon. Yeah baby!!!I also agree with toughcookie, training for a Tri is more fun than just running.Currently training for the Boston Marathon (with TNT) with my sites on an Ironman in the next two years or so. (I still can't believe I say that out loud).Okolo
