just catching things up...
who happens to be New Years Guy's best friend.
who happens to not, exactly, know whats going on with me and New Years Guy for some very good reasons.
but who now? oh he knows. ooooooooooh he knows. because... like i said... brilliant. i'm brilliant)
but that now i can't really go into full detail about because i'm just too busy. TOO BUSY.
so. catching things up-to-date, here's whats going on.
ONE....i got a personal trainer. same guy i trained with for TNT, but now i'm paying him to torture me.
and he's really good at it. my new schedule includes speed drills (which... may i just say, i did for the first time yesterday, and loathe, looooooathe with all my heart and soul? and the term speed, really, shouldn't even be put into the equation. and neither should lungs or breathing or life in general because really? i almost died.)..........
as well as hill-training (which i get to do for the first time next week), swimming (i.... yeah.), lunges (ouch), and a new and exciting regimen with the lifting of the weights.
he hates me. i'm convinced he hates me. he's also upped my mileage and the days that i run.. in that i now run 4, instead of 3 days a week.
i'm the proper amount of excited combined with the probably more than necessary amount of scared. we'll see how it goes. my first swim is friday.
HA!
TWO.... my job has me pulling out my hair stressed. the project i'm working on is a.) important b.) loooo-oooong c.) due very soon. i'm pulling some late hours and some weekend office-visits and can almost taste the feeling of BEING DONE.
but i'm not quite there. hence the TOO BUSY from earlier.
THREE.... i got re-measured. just before my ski-trip, i got re-measured, so i can properly track my progress with my trainer.
here are the new numbers
body fat = 24.5% (down from 32.4% back in november, hoorah, cuz that was horrible. and even though i said, at the time, that "i'd like to just get my body fat down to 24.. that'd be ideal"... obviously, 24.5% has now become not good enough and the new goal is 20%...)
weight = 134-136ish depending on the day/time of day (down from 138. how i lost so much body fat and so little weight is beyond me. goal here would be about 125)
FOUR.... things with building guy and new years guy are progressing nicely. i think.
i'm really not sure. things are just kinda nuts and to be perfectly honest, guys are just entirely too hard to read, but so far, besides yesterday's email debacle, i've been able to maintain my facade of the mature-yet-flirty, silly-yet-put-together, open-yet-mysterious girl.
obviously this has required an absurd amount of effort and its only a matter of time before the real me, the neurotic-chaotic-can't find her glasses, oh they're on her head-forgetful-mess of a girl me, shines through.
but until then, we're just goin' with it... i'm sure disaster is just biding his time in the corner, but, its nothin but fun till then!
FIVE.... i have to run 10 miles on saturday. not only does this frighten me, like any good 10 mile run would, but the high for the day is going to be about 24 degrees.
the HIGH is 24. meaning it will be less than 24* at 7am. this does not bode well, because i did not handle this past week's 7-mile actual 24* run very well.
my ass went numb. is that... is that normal? it like, went numb... i was at about 6.4ish when i got to my car and decided ass numbness was a really good reason NOT to finish out the last half mile... so....
saturday's 10??? i... just... well. we'll see....
and SIX... there's no real six. nothing outside of i am teetering on losing it, between my job, and my life and my running.. i've just been go! go! go! and something's gotta give, ya know? cuz... this is nuts.
but thats all i got. you're all caught up on me. hopefully i'll get back to posting on a regular basis, but until then, happy running and happy hump day!

Speedwork - Sucky but good. I used to have a dead on pace of 10 minute miles. After a year of speedwork once a week, 9 minute miles is my "normal" pace.Swimming - I bought and recommend Total Immersion Swimming, especially if your swimming skills are like mine (missing). I've been at it for about a month now, and have seen vast improvements.Temps - Last week was my 15K race. It was 25F and snowing. I wore runderwear and sweats on bottom. Short sleeve technical shirt, long sleeve technical shirt, and technical overshirt. Gloves, hat, and glasses. I sweat pretty much the whole way and wished I'd skipped the long sleeve shirt.Look at it this way, with the new training program, you'll be ready for a triathlon in no time.

Glad to have you back.Oh....and see 25 miles of running does mobolize and burn one pound of fat. Problem is lots of it gets replaced with muscle, bone density and of course new fat. :) Good work !!I love running in cool weather, and 24 is just about perfect. Wear a pair of long underwear under your running tights. Three layers on top, hat and gloves. You will be nice and toasty. The speed work will pay off, big time, I promise.

You will be awesome on the 10 miler...even if it is cold. I too, can't stand to run in cold weather. That's why I live in Cincinnati! (hee hee)

I do various kinds of speed work. Your doing the 800 meter speed work which is very good for longer runs (in my opinion). Builds up the VO2 capacity and great for the 15K-marathon distance. For the 5K I do a lot of 200 meter workouts. I typically do a 200 meter in 35 sec with a 90 sec rest and shoot for 8 of those with a 2 mile warm up and a 1-2 mile cool down. For the 10K I do the same except for using 400 meters. I try for 80-82 sec there with the 90 second recovery. I also do intervals, fartleks and hills when I can. Hills will do a lot for speed when running on a flat surface.Speed work takes time to get use to. Be patient with it, it will help even if you do not see it. You will on race day though!Good luck!

just out of curiosity, for those of you that do speed work... what do you do? my coach had me jogging 2 laps, then RUNNING two laps, then jogging, then running... for 3 miles.i almost died after my two fast laps (4:21.. which equals like an 8:40 mile, which equals death in my book. i almost threw up my lungs and couldn't keep going)so... i'm just kinda wondering, cuz.. that sucked, on a level that running has not equaled, suck-ness wise, in a long time.

geeze, you go snowboarding and drop 10% (i rounded) of your body fat??? Man, I gotta try that!Oh, and the running and the torture trainer probably did something too. He does too hate you. It's so hard keeping all these guys straight! No one can fault you for the e-mail debacle. I know I have a heckuva time keeping all my guys straight..I hope you killed v-day; with that many guys, you should have scored some serious bling!Oh, one more thing: Anyone who posts anononymous comments because they ARE TOO COWARDLY to say something negative OPENLY is an idiot. Anyone who puts their money where their mouth is gets mad props from me.your secret pal (you know who i'm talkin' 'bout)

A drop of 8% in your body fat is pretty crazy! You should be very proud of that accomplishment. As for the weight, while the numbers might not have changed as you would have liked, I'm sure your figure has shown a pretty noticeable change given that body fat drop. Muscle looks nicer than fat. :)

Take a deap breath...remember, life is more important than blogging. And anonymous is dead wrong. It never hurts to have someone to help push you to the next level. :)

Anyone who needs a personal trainer, has no willpower. That's crap to hire someone to scream at you. Just do it......

Okay, I have to admit that I'm just on the outside of "the family" looking in.....but, all these comments and nobody touched the "guys are just entirely too hard to read" line? Please... was it just too easy? Probably, but I'll say it anyway. Ninety percent of us are only there for the "short run" and then we're out of there. So, unless you have a ten percenter on the line, you'd be better off cutting bait and focusing on training....ah, but I'm assuming you want a "marathoner"...hmmmm.But anyway, I have enjoyed your blog for sometime now and will continue to follow the escapades. Thanks for being so entertaining... and catching us up.

Having a coach or a trainer is always a good idea. There is nothing wrong and all the best athletes in the world use them. My and my running friends still consult with coaches even though we are not as fast as we once were. That is being smart!

I absolutly don't think that having a personal trainer means you have no will power. That's a bunch of crap. I think it would be helpful to have trainer for exactly the reasons you said. Good luck with your swimming coming up and your hill work next week. I also did my first speed workout yesterday and was a little thrown at how different it was from my usual plodding on for distance.

dearest anonymous reader who thinks i have no willpower.... jeez you're so right. what was i thinking. i'm new to running and dont really know the best ways to enhance my performance. i'm starting a swimming routine but have never actually tried to swim for distance in any way shape or form and my technique is all over the place. i want to push myself to get better, but i'm not entirely sure the best ways to go about doing that, without just lifting weights and running and swimming willy-nilly, with no real plan.obviously, the best course of action would have been to just do it anyway though. because anyone who needs guidance and seeks the help of others to better themselves..well. they definitely have no willpower.man i wish you'd have stopped by earlier to let me know. quite apparently, i'm lost without you.

Your trainer has you doing speedwork correctly, but it shouldn't hurt quite that much. Try slowing down a bit on your speed bursts, they only need to be moderately faster than your slow parts. You're training for a marathon, not the 400. After a few months, you'll get faster than you think. It's okay to do a few bursts that are race pace, but most of your speed training should be a little slower than that.

you have a personal trainer? i am extremely jealous!i don't have the "butt going numb" problem when i do my long runs, but apparently i sweat so much i end up with ..well..like..salt streaks down the side of my face from sweat that has dripped down me and dried up...it's..well..kinda gross and weird all at the same time

A personal trainer, yeah!! It sounds like he has all the right stuff in line for your second 'thon to go much better.Sometimes my butt goes numb, but it's usually chilled to begin with. I did buy some warmer running pants (they're a little fleecy on the inside, but still moisture wicking) and that has helped.

I've been thinking about getting a trainer, actually. I'll be eager to see how you like working out with one. I will probably get one, though. In April. Need to save up...And I've also been thinking about guys, a lot. Of course! Nothing exciting for me to report, though. Keep having fun, though! That's pretty much all they're good for! Just kidding all you nice guys! MOVE TO SF, BTW!
