pretty much losin it...
i then wake up around 4, maybe 5 in the morning, and can't feel my leg.
my left leg.
the one with the muscle aches.
like its not there. its dead. asleep, whatever.. numb.
i then spend the next half hour or so massaging my leg, poking my leg, slapping my leg.... digging in the heel of my right foot into various areas of my leg... anything i can think of to wake it up.
so that i can get back to sleep.
last night i was rewarded for completing this ritual by waking up an hour later with the same situation in my right arm.
i wasn't pleased.
so the thing is... what is going on?!?!
my complete neurosis has pretty much diagnosed me with some sort of marathon-training-fatal disease. that requires amputation. it obviously means my 20 miler saturday is doomed... and.. that it has somehow morphed into some weird swimming disease as well, hence the needed amputation of my right arm.
(never mind that i feel fine at the moment)
seriously? not cool. definitely not enjoyable.. and the amputation thing?
that is so gunna ruin my day.

Wait for leg amputation until after SD. Breaking the 5 hr mark may be really difficult hopping 26.2 miles on one foot. But if you did, I would buy you dinner for a year. And make that md appt. Don't wait to get something like this checked out. Especially if the symptoms continue for more than a couple days.

if the condition persists, consult a professional.

Numbness is not a good symptom. Does it go away after you get up and start walking around or do you have to kick start your limbs with all that poking and prodding? If it keeps up I'd call a doctor - just to see what they say.Good luck on that 20 miler! I'm going to assume you can wake up your legs and arms and make it happen.

oooh that's so not fun. I get that numbness frequently in my arms...but i think it's because I sleep on them in a funny way and they fall asleep...but because I am sleeping and hence not moving off the position that caused them to fall asleep it just gets worse and worse until I wake up and can't feel my arm at all.....maybe not the same thing. I hope you feel better!

Yet again, you have managed to make me spit orange juice all over my keyboard. You are too funny.Have you tried using the Stick to break up adhesions in your legs? That may prove to be beneficial. You may want to see a dr, too.

GO SEE A DOCTOR RIGHT NOW. RIGHT. NOW. I had to bag my 20 miler bcs of an injury--and it was someone in the RBF who had to beat it into me to GO SEE A DOCTOR. THIS does not sound like potassium-induced cramps. It sounds like a nerve thing. I was PISSED at missing my 20 miler, but it didn't hurt me in the long run. (get it?)NOW PICK UP THE PHONE and dial that doctor!

this happens to me when I don't eat enough potassium, and /or protein, when i've been working a lot.

Get to the doc... better safe then sorry! It's sounds like something nerve-related. I get numbness in my arms when I run for a long time... I think from keeping my elbows in a bent position for so long. The only time I had that prob at night was when my bike fit was wrong and I was putting too much pressure on my ulnar nerve. Anyway... get it checked out and report back immediately!!

That sounds really awful to endure. It wouldn't hurt to consult your doctor. Good luck--and I'm sending you positive thoughts your way!

Amputation sounds a bit radical but hey, think about the potential weight loss!

I am not a doctor or licensed in any way but this is what worked for me. I had a similar situation when I was training for my first marathon. I would be awaken in the middle of night with muscle spasams - in my calfs, feet, arm, back, you name it. So I read on the internet to try and take Potassium Supplments as along as you are not alergice to it. So I bounght some Potassium Supplments from the local CVS Drug Store, started taking about 4 per day, two at lunch and two at dinner. Beleive it or not in 3 days it stopped. Now I continue to take the same dose daily, and sometimes a little more after longer trainings if I get one, or feel it comming on. I hope that helps.

hope it gets better for you. but at least you're still writing well. probably rules out the need for a head amputation.so did you get fitted for your bike at all? i know this is probably all running related and whatnot, but if you've been riding, and haven't been properly fitted, it'll lead to aches and pains sooner or later. probably sooner for a new rider. is there a chance that your problem isn't run-related?just a shot in the dark there.in the not related category.. i've learned that it's best for me to not even ride the day before a race. not only does it help me relax, but i also feel a lot stronger than i when i do ride the day before. maybe you just need a couple of days off to give the ol' carcass a break.

I've had my arm go totally numb from sleeping on it funny, but you should totally talk to a doctor. Numbness is often associated with nerve issues, and that's not something to take lightly.

It is not uncommon that when training for long runs a version of restless legs begins. Welcome to long distance training! I would see the dr (See a sports dr) and check it out if your worried.Good luck.
