not so much
Chip Time : 5:33:50
Overall : 11,364 out of 15,771
Sex Place : 5,210 out of 8,414
Division Place : 1,418 2030
mistakenly at the finishline i thought i at least PR'd.
apparently not, with last year's time at 5:32:48...
i don't know what happened, or why.. but i'll sort it out. through laughter, tears, a profanity or two... i'll sort it out, and move on. it's all part of the journey, part of the process...
but for now, i leave you with...
san diego is amazing.
the RBF meet-up was awesome, as i knew it would be.
nic is pretty much my new favorite person.
and readjusting to this 2 hour time difference thing is going to totally screw me for work tomorrow.
i should definitely get to bed.
thank you all for the well-wishes, and the emails and the phone-calls. i definitely felt the love this weekend, and for that i am truly grateful.

GGGRrrrrr!!! San Diego was full of promise and magic, wasn't it? WE WERE ROBBED!!!Sigh. Sounds like *everyone* didn't have the race they were hoping for...but as you said, there were highlights that helped make up for it just a bit.I was really, really looking forward to getting to chat with you in person. To me, missing out on my RBF-time was more painful than missing out on the race itself.I hope our paths cross again someday, and that we both find that race-day magic that we've earned!!

A.,I am so sorry that you missed your goal time! I've been sad for you since the results were posted. There is so much more to a race, than the time it takes to finish it. I know you had your heart set on 5:00:00, but I'm sure you ran it in typical little miss runner pants fashion....with your heart and soul. No matter what your time, there are so many of us out here that are inspired by you. A quote: "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want." Even if you didn't obtain a PR, I'm sure the trip, and the race, were filled with amazing experiences. Concentrate on the good!I can't wait for your full race report.

Sorry to hear that you missed the PR. Don't worry too much about figuring out what happened - it's more likely than not just one of "those things." Some days running is easy, and we set PRs, and some days someone has managed to slip lead into our shoes, and we struggle through it, with no clear reward. I'm looking forward to a full race report, and I'm glad to hear that there were some good points to the trip.

You are THE MOTHER F*^#ING BEST. Don't forget, we met ON THE INTERNET. And when we're in our 60s, we have to meet up somewhere to run a race wearing matching "Running Love Affair" t-shirts. Because THIS is love, A. This is TRUE LOVE. ;)Can that race NOT be the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon, though? Perhaps a nice 5K somewhere...

Sorry you missed your PR. There is no reason to make excuses, you went out and kicked butt and I'm sure you gave it your best for that day. Sometimes everything falls into place, somedays just suck. In any case you have the experience under your belt and that will help with Marathon III.

(and here i thought WE were in love...nevermind!) You did great. I can't wait to hear the details but compared to last year and the injuries...you're already ahead! You were totally prepared! but as running chick said, apparently a lot of people were unhappy at SD. It sounds like the weather was brutal. Next time pick a nice flat course and a COOL time of year! I can think of one upcoming race, with plenty of time to prepare...Oct. 29 baby!Congrats!!

Sorry about the lack of PR, although you weren't far off! I don't know whether that's a comfort or salt in the wound... but you gave it a great effort regardless, and hey, finishing ANY marathon in ANY time still gives you plenty of bragging rights!

I've heard that SD was brutual for just about everyone. But ya know what, you went out there and you did your thing and as a result, you totally rock!! :) Just remember, we all have those days. I hear Chicago is super flat. ;)

It was great to meet you in person. You're just like you are on your blog -- funny, friendly and upfront about everything. Given the conditions, you put in a good race that day. Pat your back, not dab your eyes. I ran my slowest time ever but am all smiles after just finishing on an exceptionally rough race day.

You tied your time from last time for the most part and that's okay although I'm sure it doesn't feel that way. If you amortize 90 seconds over 26.2 miles it isn't much of a difference, right? It sounds to me like it was hot and muggy (which was not my experience down there) and there was something in the food that wasn't so great for people. You made it, though! And you are so young. And you have a new BFF. All in all not a bad thing.

Hi Ave Maria...We saw the results the other day; we looked it up because we couldn't wait for you to report in.First of all... you finished.Second, San Diego is hot. Always has been, always will be.Third, it's only your second - no formal coaching - picking up what you read and hear - no master plan - no real training... most people in that situation wouldn't be running still.Fifth, it's a pretty big race. Some people don't do as well in big races - the excitement tends to suck the energy right out of you to some extent - I know that's what happens to me.Now, you need to rest and recover. You have two marathons under your belt - merely test runs...Your mile time trials shows you have speed (as my husband told you). We just have to get you to that speed over longer and longer distances. We know you can hold it for a mile. How about two miles?I think you need someone to advise you, some people to run with that will challenge you; a coach and a club might be what you need as the next step.No puppies dogs and rainbows, here, right? :o)You did well. You finished. You did something that many who started the race couldn't do, and you did something that not many people in the world would ever attempt or think about doing. As you said, it's all a part of the journey and for most of us, the journey is what matters.

It was great to meet you in SD.You are still one of my running heros, PR or no PR! Keep your head up. You still did something that most people can only dream about!

There's always a chance for a running PR...but the PR you did receive is the Personal Reward of meeting new friends and enjoying the journey that brought you to San Diego :)

i'm sorry you didn't get your PR girl. I know you must be dissappointed BUT there's always next time. With your drive and determination which is higher than most people I know you will get there. Good Job even without the PR! (really you were a minute off from your PR which is nothing over the course of the 26 miles!!!)

A while back I was talking to one of my friends about running. She said to me that I knew a lot about running and I should be a professional. First of all, I'm no where near fast enough, but the big thing it that I love running too much. Think of it this way, the last few months have been spent training and preparing for this one moment(okay, several hours) and in that time, anything could happen. you could twist your ankle, it could be hotter then you trained for, maybe you didn't hydrate well enough, maybe you hydrated too much...and the list goes on and on. As a professional you make one tiny little mistake, and you lose the race, and all those months and months of effort were pointless. Not so with the normal runners like you and me. So you didn't hit your goal time, and you didn't PR. But do you really expect to PR every race? I mean that would be awesome if you did, but realistically? And I'm sure you wanted to get faster, and you did. Just not on this run. I'm a competetive person and if I missed a goal time, or didn't PR or whatever, I'll be honest, I'd be disappointed. So I can understand where you're coming from. But don't let your head get too wrapped around the time. It's just numbers on a clock. Maybe it's not the best run of your life, but you'll have more. And the next marathon(or triathalon) you'll be faster and stronger. But let me suggest two things if I might...First, the next month or two of running, put all the fancy equipment away. Run without a watch or a Garmin or anything. Just run. Enjoy running for the sake of running without distracting yourself with times and distances. Next, look up stuff by John Bingham, he's a Runner's World columnist that talks about running, his philosophy is to run for the joy of running, and let the time take care of itself. Take care and good job on this weekend :)

P.S. Try tri's. They hurt less (well, at least the sprints do. I can't comment on the longer distances yet).P.P.S. Did your knees hold up this time? If you finished without that nasty knee pain from the last one, that's huge!!

You did awesome ali! It was great meeting you and hanging out with you and nic before the race! I don't think anyone PRd - it was a tough course. Try Austin next year! You'll love Austin.

Finishing 2 marathons is better than finishing 1 marathon and a whole heck of a lot better than finishing NO marathons! CONGRATULATIONS!

An excellent race! You did great! Keep training and your marathons will get faster. Cool, flat courses like Chicago and Austin help a lot too. If you run enough marathons, you'll eventually DNF due to injury or illness or something, and the ones you finish are all the more enjoyable. Even the world's fastest, like Paula Radcliffe, occasionally have problems. She broke the women's world record, then couldn't finish the Olympic marathon. You finished with a very respectable time! Enjoy it!

I personally would say it was less the missing of a PR and proof that you are just dead on your pace. Being within a minute or two in two races means you have a dead lock on the pace you run.
