humpf.
me.
and my bike.
do not.
get along.
and i have nothing to blame it on. except me. which is obviously unacceptable, because hello?!?!? its me. and over here in this corner we try to shift blame as MUCH as possible!!!
*wink*
so until i get this figured out, i will save you an entire post full of WHY THE @#$^%$# IS BIKING SO HARD FOR ME-SERIOUSLY ALL OF MY STRENGHT IS IN MY LEGS-THIS SHOULD NOT BE THAT DIFFICULT and skip right to the part where i decide its just going to take time and i'm just going to have to suck for a while.
because i'm still convinced i'm some sort of svelte biking hero champion in hiding.
obviously.
because i am the ruler of all things ever, even if it isn't widely accepted or acknowledged by those around me!!!
hee hee. being crazy is so much fun!!!
ooh. and. speaking of...
i can officially add champion getter of second dates to my list of steller accomplishments... because tonight, on my way home... Philosophy Boy called.
i guess it was the 5 day rule after all!!
not that it matters...
cuz i totally wasn't even that into it anyway....
right??
yeah.... right.

A. Maria,
Cycling uses almost exactly the opposite set of muscles from distance running. It's normal, and it's good.Oh, and my piece of advice - spin! Don't screw up ypur knees like I did. Get a computer and keep your cadence at 90 or higher.

I hate biking too. That's why I love the eliptical machine. Much easier, but very good on the legs.

so missy, when are you going out with him again???
my bike and i have a love/hate relationship...definitely take lots of spinning classes and get a computer with distance/cadence/etc. it will make your life easier.
crossfit kicked my ass again last night....

AJ, Scooter nailed it. Running has been building up one set of muscles, and you're starting to use another set. It's the same building process as running.
Only easier, because you now have the aerobic base built up, so don't have to start from scratch with that. You'll be able to train longer because you are already an endurance athlete.
Just give it time, and allow yourself the opportunity to build up to longer mileage, rather than trying to start out with the Tour de France distance rides.

What seems to be the problem, little missy?
Posted by: Flatman | July 26, 2006 7:08 AM
I think the problem is that your bike needs a name. You need to cherish the bike-essence of him (or her, not that there's anything wrong with that). Then all will be well.
Oh, and I am so fortunate that I stopped dating and married Mrs. Greyhound at 22. The complicated rule thing would have completely flummoxed me.

I KNEW he would call!!
Posted by: Bridgette | July 26, 2006 11:14 AM
My bike scares me. I have this fear of falling off.
When is date number 2!
Posted by: ali | July 26, 2006 11:36 AM
i hear ya . . . i stink at all things non-running . . . i'm giving swimming a try now - we'll see what happens.

Was your brake on? I just had that problem...yes, I am a biking idiot.
Posted by: KT | July 26, 2006 2:14 PM
200 squats in a day might leave your powerful legs, mmmm, not so powerful. You'll do better next time. It will get easier. And it sounds like your shorts might be too big. Your diaper shouldn't get caught on the seat.
Posted by: solobreak | July 26, 2006 2:22 PM
200 whats in one day?!? that's just WRONG!
of course he called, we all knew he would.
and yay, listen to scooter. he knows.

Oh, I sooooo knew it was the 3 BUSINESS day rule. Weekends don't count. I think they talked about that in epsidode 54 of Sex & the City, but don't quote me on that episode number. Well, congrats for sealing another one with Philosophy Boy!

Is it possible you're not 'fitted' properly for your bike? Seat or handle bar adjustment?
Maybe you can make sure by having a 'bike store guy' check you out...so to speak. :)

I'm going to leave the biking to you! So ride a few miles for the both of us!
I'm glad the boy called. Keep us updated!
Posted by: runnergirl | July 27, 2006 10:37 PM
I never ride my bike, you are at least riding the thing, and you get props for that. Keep on keepin' on, that is all you can do, right?
Glad the boy called:-)

I remember when I first got my road bike. I thought it would be sooooo much easier to ride and climb hills. Man was I wrong. It killed me. I was totally discouraged and felt nothing but frumpy. But, I loved the pain and before I knew it, I could climb a small hill without wanting to puke. With time, it all came together. One thing is for sure, few people just hop on a bike and are automatically great riders. I guess you just have to earn it, which I'm sure you will do. Keep at it and you will be "super stellar" at cycling too.
