so! annoying!
BAHHH!!
okay. seriously. this has got to stop.
i am out of control.
for about two months, i have been the picture of health. my nutrition has been spot on, i've been sleeping. i've been working out, going to crossfit, spinning, swimming... you name it, i've done it.
its been fantastic. i've had that i look good, i feel good, life is good complexion. i've been upbeat and happy. my pants have been getting bigger, my ass has been getting smaller...
the world has been my oyster. for two... months...!
but then i did it.
i'm doing it.
i'm screwing it all up.
*sigh*
seems like, whenever i start seeing results... whenever the nutrition and the exercise do their magical bootie blend on my body and i start shrinking... albeit slowly.... i screw it up.
sweet. i'm gettin' skinny! this rocks....
i think i'll have some pizza!
what. is. my. PROBLEM!!?! i do it every time. and i know it. eeevery time. but then i do it anyway.
AND IT IS SO ANNOYING! its like there's this switch in my head that alerts my body.. wherever the "feed me" sensor is stationed, to go into overdrive when i dip under that certain number on the scale.
i bought.. for the first time in honestly i don't even know how long....
POP TARTS. earlier this week. and chocolate ones at that...FOR NO REASON! i wasn't even hungry at the time. it was like an act of defiance.
i'm losing weight?!?! HA! i'll show that fat percentage who's boss...!!!
who the toots eats pop tarts anymore? i mean come on.
so. in an attempt to end this dieting debaucle in one fowl swoop i decided to...
eat wendys at lunch, ice cream for dessert and pop tarts for dinner. (with the thought there being.. well. the sooner i get rid of these, the sooner they'll be gone. heaven forbid i do the unthinkable and... oh i dunno... throw them OUT!)
*ahem*
i'm so nutrionally sound.
ANYWAY! i also went to the store, bought veggies and fruit, some turkey and avacado, and will, once again, board the health-smart band wagon and get my ass in gear.
seriously though..
if there's some sort of smack yourself up-side the head remedy for self-sabotage, i'm all ears. this has been my routine now for... how old am i...
oh yeah.
about 27 years now. and its got to stop!
Comments
Tomorrow is the start of a new month! Start fresh! You'll be fine!
Great new profile pic by the way!

women are so good at sabotage, they don't even know when they do it to themselves. or they do, but they can't stop it.
damn us.
Posted by: Susan | January 31, 2007 8:43 PM
not yet 27? oh, you're a baby.
damn youth.
Posted by: Susan | January 31, 2007 8:43 PM
i ate soy chips and a smores poptart for dinner. gonna hurl.
Posted by: Curly Su | January 31, 2007 9:12 PM
If you could bottle some of that self-sabotage remedy if you find it, can you send it my way?
I would blame it on the move and figure "Now that I am settled in, I can start eating better again."
Posted by: Danielle in Iowa | January 31, 2007 9:38 PM
The same thing happens to me.
I think Danielle is right about the move stressing you out and leading to the sabotage. At least you've realized it now and can do something about it.
Posted by: Laurie | January 31, 2007 9:41 PM
i don't blame you.
i blame the pop-tarts.
they are delicious little packages of goodness.
they are in our vending machine at work, random flavors depending on when you get there...
they torment me fortnightly.
it's ok to give yourself a break now and then... say, like 5% of the time.
you've had yours. now, get back to eating healthy!

Love your new pic!
If you are gong to eat Pop Tarts go with the Browns Sugar Cinnamon variety - they are the only ones worth eating.
And pizza? - world's most perfect food. Trust me.

I do that stuff all the time. I have this sort of zen like philosophy as I eat something I shouldn't.
We only go around this crazy world once, if we deny ourself the occassional simple pleasure of decadent food we are missing out on one of lifes great joys.
You are the picture of health, relax! :-)

gah! i do the SAME thing! and thought i was the only one. i seriously lose and gain the same 10 pounds over and over...
Posted by: miss petite america | February 1, 2007 6:25 AM
I can offer no advice, simply a recommendation: Hot Fudge Sundae Pop Tarts. Seriously. Much better than the regular fudge ones. I mean, if you're going to sabotage yourself, at least get the best flavor, right? Good luck with everything.

Your body is saying feed me! You get to choose! Don't sweat the dips and valleys. We ALL do it. Focus on the long term results.
Posted by: Wes | February 1, 2007 7:43 AM
Do or do not. There is no try. Be the tofu.
Posted by: greyhound | February 1, 2007 8:30 AM
Hey, that greyhound stole MY LINE!
Anyway, you are correct, there is a "switch" in your head. You body is used to being a certain weight, and if that is going down, your body is signaling your brain to EAT. Also, I find I crave the really bad stuff when I am not getting enough food... so try eating a little more of the healthy stuff.
This from a woman who is 25% fat... nevermind. Ignore me. ;P

I tell myself not to buy any junk when I enter the store, but somehow a bag of peanut butter M&Ms just appeared in my cart at the checkout. Go figure.
Posted by: stronger | February 1, 2007 10:14 AM
I think at one time or anyother we all do this..
I love PopTarts!!!
a good trick is.. Dont Buy that Stuff!!! if u do for kids keep it out of sight and have someone else get the kids there snacks..
Just stay with the program, if you fall off, get back on, simple..
it's consistance over time that gets us to your goals!!
Have a great day!!

I have no wisdom in this regard, but lots of empathy.
I WOULD, however, recommend logging what you're eating, if you're not already. It might help you tap into clues about things that set you off into the spiral of trans-fat-laden pastry goodness.

I think we all have those moments. I thought I was the only one that LOVEZ poptarts. They don't even sell my favorite out here in cali-the vanilla ones! Oh, and to make you feel better...I ate a WHOLE margarhita California Pizza Kitchen pizza the other night. The ENTIRE thing. arghhh
Posted by: ridinfences | February 1, 2007 10:38 AM
I have a chocolate and cheesecake issue myself. I try to get down to the place I want then I blow it once a week. Oh well.
Sorry the army guy is going to be late I just read the blog. Looks like the marriage and kids and all that stuff is on hold for another 90 days!
Posted by: Kurt | February 1, 2007 12:36 PM
I do the exact same thing!!!I read once that moving toward a goal is like a bell curve. It takes work to get going, and as you start to see results motivation increases. BUT when you are in a certain comfort zone with regard to your closing in on your goal, motivation wanes (you're "close enough"). It isn't your fault, its just the way we're wired. That's why I have 2 sizes of jeans!
Posted by: CindyJo | February 1, 2007 5:07 PM
You have to have that stuff every once in a while, otherwise, where's the fun in life? Ummm ... pop tarts.
Posted by: Josh | February 1, 2007 10:56 PM
you are not alone. although i say, if you're gonna fall off the wagon, skip the poptarts and go straight to chocolate-filled croissants...i dunno, something REALLY REALLY good!
poptarts are hard wired into our brains. they call me from the vending machine every now and then (and our vending machines have REDUCED prices, how evil is that?) but really, they taste like cardboard when you get right down to it.
don't worry; you'll get back on the wagon.
Posted by: jeanne | February 2, 2007 6:12 AM
There are pop tarts in the machine where i work. They are the devil in cellophane.
But seriously don't worry.
I am feeling the SAME way. It comes and goes and it won't kill you. You're butt might get bigger, but don't boys like that?
Posted by: courtney | February 2, 2007 7:14 AM
I know your pain. I will go like two months or so with great eating habits, Then it is like I go on a binge. This weeks for example has been too much pizza, ice cream, taco bell, and McDonalds. I need to get back on that heatlhy eating wagon.

I LOVE POPTARTS! and sweet potato fries..i like them too. oh, and pizza. i really enjoy eating whole avocados. and a pound of turkey. in one sitting. im getting hungry and i just ate lunch.
i love your new blogger header and your glamour shot! hot stuff!
Posted by: Kim | February 2, 2007 11:47 AM
I'm sorry, but your post cracked me up. I tend to do that same thing, though after a race. I mean, as it is, I don't have the best eating habits, but if I have a good, race, I'm thinking "I'll celebrate with a double bacon cheeseburger." :D
Oh, and wow on the pic. :) Very pretty.
Posted by: Sam | February 2, 2007 3:56 PM
i like the new photo.
good choices on the turkey, avocado and veggies, etc.
Posted by: massoman | February 2, 2007 6:08 PM
I think it's good to eat like a "normal" person every now and then. If only to remind you about how bad it feels! Turkey and avocado sounds pretty good, come to think of it. I'm hungry!
Posted by: Nic | February 2, 2007 8:07 PM
(A quote from Moonstruck) SNAP OUT IT, girlie! One little thing is okay. You can move on the next day. Geez!
Posted by: Denise "Firefly" | February 2, 2007 8:17 PM
JohnnyTri is right - not keeping it in the house is step one. But, in my experience, I've found that the best way not to cheat...is to cheat.
What I mean is...once a week, or every two weeks, just do what you did today - have ONE DAY where you've got no restrictions, where you can eat anything you want. Get an urge on Thursday for potato chips? Put it on your Saturday menu. Thinking about pizza on Friday? Hold off 'til Saturday.
Sure, it's delayed gratification, and you're still having to burn off those calories...but it's much easier to regulate it, rather than opening the floodgates..
And, anyways, I think that you're a good size...
Posted by: The Rover | February 3, 2007 12:39 AM
If it makes you feel any better, I do the same thing! One suggestion I have is to throw out your scale (I tried the "hide the scale" thing but it didn't work because I knew where I put it. :) But anyway...I think you're hot the way you are and you honestly don't need to lose weight. But, I should talk. Sigh.

Now if they'd only invent Pop Tart flavored turkey and ice cream flavored veggies we'd be a happier planet. Damn those lazy ass food scientists.
Stay tuned...

Hey, I randomly came across your page and I thought I could help! I’m a very competitive runner and I know a lot about nutrition! The biggest mistake people make when they go on diets is they erase junk from their diet! That only causes you to go nuts and crave the junk! I would suggest eat a pop tart or whatever it is you really like that is unhealthy, a few times a week but not big portions! This will stop you from getting huge cravings and going nuts! Also if you start to really crave something drink water! Water is very good for you…that is a whole new story I’m not going to get into! You can try this for a little while and if it helps you I am glad to help! And if you decide not to then I hope someone else reads this and tries it out! Good luck! Just be strong!

Stephanie said exactly what I was going to, allowing yourself little snacks and treats on occasion isn't bad...80/20 rule is what I try to follow, and I think like you when I'm doing really well all week, the weekend kicks my butt. For me it's, oh, I only ate half the box of Lucky Charms/Edy's Ice cream or what not, might as well eat the rest and then it won't be there (like you I can't seem to just throw it away!!).
