oh man... i best never have a kid...
um.. so..
i think i might be a weetle bit excited. cuz i think its finally official...
I'M GETTING A DOG!!!
finally i'm getting a puppy! (and for those that are wondering... a rhodesian ridgeback puppy. the kind in all the pics there on the left!!!)
i've been researching, reading, investigating puppies for seriously almost two years now. every time i think i'm set, something happens.
the mommy sonogram comes back negative.
the breeder turns out to be not so trustworthy.
the puppy promised to me goes to someone else.
its always something.
and everytime i just think... we'll wait. it'll be fine. we'll just wait and the right one will come along.
and by we, obviously, i just mean me---its been a somewhat emotional ride.
getting excited, preparing myself, and then getting let down. it's sucked. because apparently i don't have the best of luck.
but this time...
i'm almost certain it's going to work.
i found a breeder in north central texas who's going to have a new litter in the next couple of days and...
he promised me a puppy.
the cutest most darling puppy that is ever to be born. he's gunna be MINE!
and that's where i start to lose my mind.
i'm already maybe going a little overboard. i'm trying to think of everything. i'm asking questions, i'm gushing to my friends, i'm buying crates and blankets and collars and toys...
and last night as i argued with myself over a 2 hour plane ride vs. an 8 hour drive i realized..
omg. i'm like one of those new moms. that goes a little ape-shit when she has her first kid.
OH. MY. GOD.
when did this become ME!!?!?!
and i decided.. i just best never have a kid.
because between doggie classes, books on how to crate train, figuring out ways to bring my puppy to work while his bladder is small, plotting out routes where we can go on walks, and practically arranging play dates will all my dog-owning friends...
while the thing is still in his mom's womb...
if i ever have a kid?
i might just drive myself insane.

i hope it's a german shepherd. it is the only acceptable brand of dog to own. you know. as long as you can get over that german shepherd smell. and the hair. lots and lots of hair. so much hair. the hummingbirds made nests out of it this year.
congrats on the impending puppy!

Hooray! Congratulations! My dogs are like children to me and I did have to train one of them from a puppy. Crate training all the way! I'm lucky enough to be able to bring them to work with me, which is nice. Sounds like an adorable pup and I can't wait to see pictures!! And uh, yah, I get the preparation thing.

I don't think it's called insanity anymore...it's called being a parent. It doesn't matter that your "kid" is a puppy.

You make a cute puppy mommy.
Just think of it as practice for a human puppy. It's pretty simple and pretty much the same.

Congrats! Friend of mine has a Rhodesian. She's sweet as can be and FAST!
We've got a Bernese Mountain Dog. Met the breeder the day he was born and saw him first at 3 weeks.
We didn't know which one we were getting, but we knew who we wanted when the day 1 pictures came out. And we got him.
Enjoy being a parent to your furkid!

Congrats! I miss my puppy and I can't wait to get another one. What made you decide on an African Lion Hound?

Congrats, AJ. That's awesome. Puppies are great! I got one back in November, and decided I just had to have another and got a second one two weeks ago. Now my blog and turned into nothing but pictures of my fur babies. Good luck and I'm sure everything will turn out perfect this time and in 8 short weeks you'll have your new bundle of joy.

Congratulations on your impending mommyhood! I remember when I first took my dog home. I was driving him from Austin back to San Antonio and I couldn't believe I had this furry white thing in the backseat of my car (he's a Westie I got from a rescue society). I would vote for driving too as I'm not sure if airlines will even transport a dog that young. Good luck!

Congratulations! My dog is my best little pal - they make life so fun! I love Rhodesian Ridgebacks and I am constantly trying to convince my husband that we need one, in addition to our miniature dachshund. Ridgebacks are great running partners and such beautiful animals. Congratulations again - I look forward to seeing puppy status updates!

YAY! What a great dog, can't wait to see pictures! I hope you watched the westminster dog show a few weeks ago-- the ridgeback was seriously gorgeous :)

i caught the rhodey part in your post. and DEFINITELY CRATE TRAIN!! i didn't with either any of my rescues. i think they're perfectly well behaved but my best friend say s that if my dogs' behavior is any indication of how my children will behave, then i should not procreate. so yeah, no real kids for me either...

You are going to have SO.MUCH.FUN! I felt the same way when I got my Vizsla. I was 23, in an appartment and didn't have much money. I made it all work.. One of my BEST decisions ever!
