knee
so..
after that last run i did earlier this week, i awoke the next day with...
a swollen knee.
a very sore, swollen knee.
why? where'd it come from? what happened?!
yahhh.. i dunno. but it was NOT. COOL.
i couldn't bend it without screaming out in pain, going up/down stairs was a joke, and even really just walking around was a bit of a problem.
so i iced it. layed off for a day or two. swam instead of biked and thought, yesterday, when the swelling and pain had gone..
sweet! i fixed myself!
um.
........ i didn't fix myself.
because 45 minutes into my ride yesterday, i looked down and WHOA.
swollen. knee.
having no choice but to ride back, i.. rode back. got home. iced it.
woke up this morning with NO pain, but am now wondering..
WHAT THE HELL.
i have a 3.5 hour ride tomorrow and a duathlon sunday.
so the question is... if it doesn't hurt, but is still swollen..
do i ride?
do i race?
do i sit it out?
what do i DO!?
my HIM is in exactly one month.
i do not have time for this!
Comments
I would skip the ride for sure. In fact when I race on Sunday I don't do stuff on Saturday, anyhow. I would also google the hell out of "swollen knees" and running.
Really - I have no idea.

Something in there isn’t right, the good news is it’s not bleeding. Sounds like a day off before the du is in order.

definitely rest tomorrow, keep icing. my knee swells up like that sometimes too. i make sure i do plenty of stretching and massaging along where the it band is. i think i've read somewhere that the omega 3's in salmon helps inflammation.

A friend of mine and fellow runner barely banged her knee pole-dancing (instructor, not stripper), didn't even think about it again until she woke up the next morning with her knee triple its normal size. Diagnosis: Dislocated knee cap. Being injured right now myself, I'd vote going to the doc and at least getting a true diagnosis and asking what you can do, how long you should stay off of it, and what you can do to make it through the HIM. Oh, and GOOD LUCK!

I agree with the others that you have to rest on Saturday and try to get in touch with your doctor, because it could be a lot worse (or not) than you expect it to be.
Being injured sucks because it messes up all your plans, but i'd rather sit the next event out, fix that knee (and not on your own!) and then you'll be fine to do your HIM.
Good luck!
