warrior diet?!
alright.
so i was talking to texas boy earlier today about my bet with k-state guy, and he recommended i try the warrior diet.
aka... intermittent fasting.
i've been reading all about it online at warrior diet . com and robb wolf . com (crossfit's nutrition guru).. and i'm more than willing to give it a try..
but was just wondering what, if anything, you all knew about it, if you'd tried it, what you thought, etc.
i'm a stubborn-fat-around-the-middle girl who's hypoglycemic and has dysfunctional adrenal glands... but apparently this thing's supposed to work.
so i'm giving it a go. i'll let you know what i find. but in the mean time, like i said...
let ME know.. what YOU know!
(and here's me being a little rude, but it has to be said because i can't stand the "i heard it through the grapevine so it must be true" thinking...
by "what YOU know".. i really mean "what you KNOW"... not what you think you heard someone say one time that you read in some magazine that some coach once told you and so that means its right.
by KNOW, i mean you've tried it before, have an experience with it, you hated it, loved it, it worked, didn't work...
m'kay?! m'kay.
did i mention i'm PMSing today? no? well i am.
so sue me.)

I'd love to know if it works...the way life is going now, the only way I'll drop ten pounds is if I go shopping in England. Gah!

I've never heard of this diet, but this is what I've read. When you fast, your metabolism slows way down, which is the opposite of what you want.
Obviously, if you hold back enough calories, it'll get the job done in the short term...maybe long enough to win the bet. But, I don't think it's really a good long term kinda weight loss strategy.
Just my thoughts.
Either way, I hope you win the bet.

Hmmm, I think it sounds a little crackpotish myself (the main benefit being that by only eating one meal a day, you'll probably eat less calories in a day!). But then again, I'm no nutritionist and could stand to lose a few pounds, so who knows!

I have tried the "Warrior Diet" with success. I would highly recommend you read the book and his website before beginning. The author, Ori, does not recommend true fasting. Instead he recommends under-eating during the day. In Zone terms, these would be 1 block meals. You would need to adjust your food intake with your activity levels also. In general, fasting is more associated with health and lifespan vs. athletic performance.

As a hypoglycemic athlete myself, I could NEVER do that. I give you kudos for trying this.

Under eating is what makes you lose weight - it's just a matter of degree.
Starvation for a short period of time to drop a few quick pounds is fine if you don't mind gaining them back along with a few more. That's what happens 9 times out of 10.
I would definitely not mess with your glycemic index in an extraordinary way if you are hypoglycemic. Not a good idea.
The best idea is to up the protein and lower the carbs. Period. You will lose weight.
I am a life long dieter - tried them all and can say with confidence that nothing but figuring out a long term successful eating plan will get you where you want to go. Of this I am sure.

My kid sister is hypoglycemic and if she ever tried this, i'd kick her arse.....in a brotherly way of course. Great blog, only just found it, but i'll be back to read more later. Hope the bet/died/starvation thingy goes well ;)

Hi Girl,
Just checked your post and have to say this -- if you are truly dealing with an adrenal issue (fatigue/exhaustion), putting your body into a stress mode, if even only slightly with the under-eating, will not be helpful. Period.
Clinically speaking..and you know I love ya...I would not recommend this to any patient until the adrenals get checked and reset to square one. Then experiment all you want.
Thanks for all your blogging..I enjoy checking in with your life!

I have been on the Warrior Diet for six weeks and survived Thanksgiving!
It is the easiest "diet" that I have ever been on. I actually had the book in the throw away pile for about a year. The night before my wife was to take the donation box to the local library, I pulled the book back out and looked through it one more time. I then decided that night that I would try this crazy sounding, unconventional eating plan.
I have lost 13 pounds over six weeks, 12 of which are fat pounds according to my scales that do both weight and body fat %.
The goal is to get you body into a detox during the day to get rid of toxins. One purpose of fat is to absorb toxins to protect the organs. So...if you you eliminate toxins, you reduce the need for fat and the body then burns fat for fuel.
Surprisingly, my regimented three meal a day cravings vanished, I am not famished, I love cookies at night...but never crave them anymore. I am much more alert during the day, especially in the early afternoon when I used to feel tired after lunch.
I would recommend trying it.

I've been doing a warrior style intermittent fasting program for about a month now. I've lost an encredible amout of inches and simply feel wonderful. Ive determined I have insulin resistance/syndrome x. My emotions are more even, my cravings are under control, Im actually enjoying healthy food since I get to a real hunger at night after my 18-20 fast. I tried fruit during the day, but found even that made me tired and sluggish, so Im listening to my body. Start my 5 hr window of eating with a raw fruit salad, followed by a spinach salad with a rainbow of veggies, the proceed to proteins, carbs, fats. Still not properly combining foods, but since Im still getting results, not to worry just yet. I feel this plan is saving me!

I've done warrior style for years and it works for me. I don't recommend it for everyone because it's hard to maintain, and doesn't adapt well to our societal style of eating, but if you maintain good nutrition with it, it's a very smart way to go in my opinion.
