I can

So I was re-reading my history, and mulling over the comments. So many people wrote that it was inspirational, and for the life of me, I couldn't find the inspiration. I could only find the failure in getting injured. I only saw frustration and agony. Then my eyes lit upon on Rob's comment about my attitude - that it was an "I Can" attitude, instead of an "I Can't" attitude.

Then a light bulb went off in my head (well, it was more like one of those dimmer bulbs, slowly getting brighter and brighter). I'm so frustrated and so down on myself, because I am choosing to only look at the negative, and choosing to only focus on what I Can't do.

Aha!

Well, then, what Can I do? I need to let go of what I Can't do - major ultra training - and focus on what I Can do:

I Can let go of my fear
I Can let go of my ultra-training expectations

I Can cross-train
I Can do yoga
I Can run three, flat miles
I Can hey, I just said, I Can run - how awesome is that?!
I Can run!
I Can stretch

I Can try spinning for the first time ever tomorrow night (yeah, wish me luck!)
I Can run two miles pushing Ash in the jogging stroller (whew! we did it on Saturday to go to the playground.)
I Can watch what I eat
I Can sign up for the Sugar & Spice 32 mile trail ultra in Kentucky on June 10 (Johnny's dad wants us to come and visit him, so he's buying us plane tickets for whenever we want...why not have it coincide with a race! Now, if only I can convince him to bring us out again, on November 11, for the Kentucky Arches run...)

I Can be crew for Olga at Zane Grey (woo hoo!!!!)
I Can
I Can
I Can

What Can you do?

Angie, you CAN and DO so much more! You CAN live honest life and give love to your family and DO this. Ultras are like that - love and one step after another:) By the way, spin classes are awesome crosstraining. Pushing jogger? That's something! Kentucky race? Totally cool! Arches is one that drew my attention a long time ago too. Crew Zane? Yay, that's GIVING!

I love that list of "I can" statements! It reminds me of listing the things I'm grateful for each day - just to bring them to the forefront. Great attitude!

Yet again - inspiration! Don't fret! you will be back to ultra-ing soon!I have always pictured spinning classes as some fitness-nazi on a bike barking orders to make you pass out...have fun! (heehee)I CAN get my ass out of bed to run before the sun comes up.I CAN have a healthy lifestyle and outlook on life.I CAN look for adventure.I CAN cook a mean chicken piccata(ok that last one isn't terribly related but I must gush - its true!)

I know, I know - June 10 is soon! I was contemplating my insanity at including that in the list. But I never said I CAN finish the darn thing ;) Just that I CAN enter it. That gives me hope :) Plus it has a 12-hour (!) cutoff time. I could hike that distance in that time! (Well, okay, maybe I'm overestimating.)

You are one amazing lady, Angie!!!I was wondering if you might could e-mail and tell me about your experiences with your gall bladder. I had an u/s done recently and they found a pollyp. They'll be monitoring it for a while see if it's a gallstone fused to the side or something more serious. :/ I'm really interested to see how things went with you! - barbsmarathon AT gmail DOT com

Sugar and Spice sounds so cool!I looked it up on Google maps to see how far it is from us and it's nearly a 7 hour drive. I was hoping it would be on the west side of KY. I love that it's all about women!
