Longest run since surgery...
I had a nice easy run this morning with Paki. We went out for four miles, the longest I've run since my surgery. Done in 49 minutes, which was an over-12-minute-mile pace - slow! But I did it. I am surprised at the amount of fitness I seemed to have lost. By the end of the run, I could feel that I was getting warmed up. I'm ready to get out there for longer runs.
So instead of hitting the mountain with JD on Sunday, I'll be heading up with Johnny and Ash. They promised me at least 6 to 7 miles. I'll bring the camera to get lots of pictures :)
I wish I had more to say, but alas, my brain is fried.

Slow schmoe...like you said, you just started 'warming up' near the end...take that as a good sign.
Won't take you long to be your old self.

Hooray!! I think your case is a little different than mine in that surgery takes a little something out of you. You'll get back up there in no time :)

Muscle-memory is an amazing feature we all have built in! You'll be back to big mileage before you know it.

Don't get too discouraged at the 4 mile slump. I had a similiar feeling of discouragement after being off injured, how little endurance I felt I had, but it builds back quickly.
Isn't it wonderful to be back out running again?

Angie,
Whatever the pace, I bet you had a blast being able to run again. Even a 4 mile run must have felt like the major accomplishment it is! Congratulations!!

I love muscle memory. I'm hoping it serves me well since I've missed a few runs myself.

I'm still getting back into it. Unfortunately, I've not been running as much as I should because the lack of fitness is getting me down and I don't feel like running, which means I'm not getting the fitness back - ah! the vicious circle

I bet we could make a great couple of running partners today!

Four miles is a great post-surgery distance! And some of us find an over 12 minute pace to be (sigh) normal. It won't be long till today's four mile run is a distant memory, that you'll think about as you cruise along at your old pace and distance...

You'll be back in shape in no time. You'll be blazing along with energy to spare in months (as the weather gets cooler)

You'll get back into the swing of things before too long!

Sounds like you are improving slowly but surely, just the way it should be.

Hey, your back and that's what matters. You'll probably be more surprised by how quickly the fitness comes back. And just think of all the new post-surgery PRs you are going to log!!!

You'll get there, Angie! Hope you have a great run this weekend.

Go, girl! Run like the wind! Or, in the case of back of the packers like you n me, run like a gentle warm breeze! I think you'll hit your stride again very soon and will re-gain any lost fitness quickly.
