Gone

They're gone. My laptop and dayplanner (and a work binder and two library books, to boot). Someone stole them from my car Sunday night/Monday morning. The laptop was hidden, but they found it. My car's window was wrecked. My brain - the dayplanner - with too many sentimental things to list - is gone. I feel rudderless. My laptop - full of photos and documents - gone. I'm sad. I'm grieving. Sure, it's a little melodramatic, but dammit, I'm sad.

I'm writing this while in Scottsdale for a work conference (which I'm quite excited to be at). Thank goodness I got renter's insurance a few months back - they'll cover the laptop (I think). I got a new dayplanner and have been trying to refill it. It had my entire run schedule for training for ZG. I never got it up on my blog, which means I have to recreate the entire schedule. F&*@.

Did you know police won't visit the scene of a theft if the thief didn't do any damage to the car (other than glass) and didn't leave any tools and/or blood behind? They're doing the whole thing over the phone. That's slightly disconcerting.

Chris was awesome Monday morning. He went and got my car all cleaned up, vaccuumed all the glass out, while I went to my previously scheduled dr appt (and learned I had a fever too boot "No dr, I'm not here for my cold - I have a fever?! - I don't care, that's not what I'm here for), then he drove me around town for errands while the glass guy fixed my car. I made it back to work in time for a few brief meetings before I headed up to Scottsdale for a fantastic meeting on Monday night to kick off my conference.

I definitely feel violated. My stuff - taken. Sentimental, important stuff. Sure, it's just things, but they are pieces of me. Sigh. Oh well. I'll be okay.

that really, really blows.

hey, how long will you be in scottsdale? we're headed out to surprise on friday to visit my parents and will be there until tuesday.

i want to do a long trail run on sunday at some point. got any suggestions for the area?

Totally sucks, so sorry to hear that. I know this doesn't say much, but having a backup system is worth it especially for photos.

What a bummer! Nothing too private - like credit card numbers or ssn or bank account numbers on there, right? If so...take steps to protect yourself!

This majorly SUCKS! It's OK to be sad. You got good advice above. I would be so devastated, I would never think of such things. Hope your renter's insurance replaces the computer.

Oh that totally sucks. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. We had something taken out of our car once and it was such a creepy feeling. Those jerks will pay some day, what goes around, comes around. Hang in there.

how awful. that really sucks. it's lucky you weren't in the car...And they are just material stuff, but i know that it hurts anyway. Stay strong!

OH Angie that is just awful!! I had my purse stolen about 15 years ago and I still remember wandering why, why, why. It is such an invasive feeling. :<(

this sucks. My coworker had this window smashed in last week too. It amazes me how some people will just thoughtlessly ruin someone else week.

Oh, you poor thing. That's a tough blow that I don't think anyone's braced for. Sure do hope the renter's insurance comes through so you can replace all you can.

What a terrible feeling - I've been there, too. I'm sorry to hear this.

That sucks. Thieves get bad karma.

Oh Angie, how horrible! I dont blame you for feeling lousy about the whole thing...that really sucks!

Chin up :)

That sucks, Angie! Sorry for the disturbance. I know how it feels when your car is broken into. It is a strange and disconcerting violation, but mostly it sucks!

Shit, Ang! That is aweful! The feeling of been violated is so much worse than what exactly was taken...I am sorry.
