Okay, after reviewing the lingering pain in my knee, I've decided to suspend any plans for a long-distance race for 2009. Instead, I will focus on getting healthy and fit. I'd like to lose 15 pounds, get trim and lean, create beautiful arms, build my core strength and get a little faster at running. I figure 12 months is plenty of time to do this with no pressure. I'll start outlining my plan in the next couple of weeks. 12 months is too long to be vague, so I need to set mini-goals along the way. I will continue to "race" smaller distances (5k, 10k) with our local running club.
I've started playing soccer. I'm not sure how good of an idea this is for me knee, but I'm taking it easy and stopping when the knee starts twinging (but before it starts hurting). I'm really enjoying this; it's fun, I get to hang out with friends and it's speedwork! It works muscles I didn't know I had - that's a cool thing.
Ash and I are doing a "buy-nothing Christmas" this year. I'm looking forward to creating presents with Ash for our large family. It's fun to think outside the box!

That sounds like a GREAT plan!! Although I am bummed that I won't see you at Pemberton.
Angie,
I think your plan is smart. Very good. You'll be in tip top shape for 2010 if you progress gradually.
Thanks again for the socks! I think they helped after my long run. At any rate, my legs felt good while I was wearing them! I'll do a post on them and report my findings. :)

I think your plan is very smart. Careful with playing soccer - I'd vote against it until the knee is 100 percent.
I did "buy-nothing Xmas" too:)
Angie, you need to heal that knee - and I need to heal that hip. And we both need to loose 15 lbs. And so on...Wanna jump on food diary log with me? I finally started to loose a little and tighten some bolts in my food intake choices.
That kind of plan has made all the difference for me running pain-free. I've remained focused on 5k & 10k distance training and losing weight and stretching religiously. It's worked wonders for me and I think it will for you, too. Hopefully we can get to the same race at some point.
Good thinking on the new approach to your training.
Fun.
It's good to mix it up and keep your body guessing.
A "buy nothing" Christmas! Great idea!!
I think that sounds like a great plan (although I dont' think you look like you need to loose weight). I'd like to do some similar things for next yr - loose weight, get faster, etc.
Good luck! I love that name "Ash". My brother's name is Daniel Ashley, and we call him Ash for short and have for so many years. He's 27 now, and still is called Ash.
Sorry that your race plans are deferred ... but the races will always be there. Get healthy first.
Be careful with the soccer, too. You could do more harm than good there.
I glad that I am not the only one who can appreciate the subtle differences between a twinge and hurting.
Looks like a good smart 09' plan...
Happy Holidays!!!
