Yesterday afternoon I wanted to go for a run - as per the plan - for 20 minutes. I still felt a little stiff after our gym session on Monday, but I felt good about running and once I got home I immediately hit the road. I put on my iPod shuffle (I run on a trail, so there's very little chance of me being hit by another moving object, unless it is a bike or another athlete) and while listening to the good music, just ran my heart out.
After 16 minutes I felt a little out of breath. I figured it was just the unfit body of mine complaining about running and wanting me to take a rest. I glanced down at my NavMan and nearly fell over. I had covered 3km already! Wow, a pace faster than 6'00" without really thinking about it or trying. I was having a good running day. So I kept on running, but my legs started feeling increasingly more heavy than it did before I looked down.
I worked at it though and decided that I'd keep on running until I managed to get to a 5km mark. My time : 27'49"! It was the fastest 5km I've run since I've started in April. By more than a minute - which is the 5km I ran about 5 weeks ago. I was so happy I got a big smile across my face as I slowly jogged the last 500m home. Only when I got home I realised that sweat was literally dripping from me. I obviously am taking in enough fluids.
Andy gave me a cold drink while I stretched a little and then I took a shower.
I love runs that unexpectedly become faster than you thought it would be. :)
