Ultra Running in 2007

I have found three 100K ultra events so far that take place next year, I plan on running one of them (so far):

- The 21st Annual German 100K Run in Hanau-Rodenbach in April, 2007 (10 x 10K loops gentle rolling hills)

- The 3rd Annual Boedefelder Hollow 101K Run (lots of good climbs, forest ways etc.) on May 12, 2007

- The Chiemgauer 100K Mountain Ultra in July 2007 that I talked about a couple days ago.

The first one would be a good “newbie” run. The other two are a little tougher, particularly the Chiemgauer.

There are other 100K runs in Germany, France or Switzerland but they require extensive traveling.

I also have a few other ultra events on my list:

- The Rodgau 50K (10 x 5K loops) at the end of January 2007.

- The Westerwald Forest 50K ultra in May (the one I ran this year).

- The Fidelitas Night Run 80K (50M) at the end of June.

- A 63K Trail Ultra in October.

Of course these all depend on the 100K race. The 50K in January is given, it will be a good training race for the 100K. If I run the Chiemgauer 100K in July, the Westerwald 50K with its nice hill climbs will be an excellent training run. On the other side if I run the Boedefelder or Chiemgauer I don’t know if I should plan on the Fidelitas 80K – they are kind of close together for a rookie.

What constitutes extensive travelling to you? The Chiemsee is quite some distance from where you live, doesn't that count as extensive?

I have a hard time picking and choosing which ones to run and I want to run them all so I wait and see what I can fit in based on how I feel. The 10K loop 100K might be a good start and then if you are good with the distance you can do the one on July as well.

7 is a nice round number - maybe you should do them all! hee hee hee

Have a great weekend!

It's fun too look at races and plan isn't it? I don't have any advice, but I know you'll figure out the best plan for you (and your wife!)

If you are able to figure out how long you need to recover, and then how long you need to train for the next event that should pretty much decide your year for you. That's not factoring in the wife situation. That needs it's own special task force to maneuver around.

Sounds like you want to do many... am I right?
Is your wife going with you or you need her help during the race?

What the heck happened to you? I remember back when you ran your second marathon and it didn't go well and you were all bummed out. And now suddenly you are running ULTRAS and not just running but planning all the races even for next year. You've become a damn running maniac, Jack!

My husband and I are yankees (Colorado style) also in Germany for 2-3 years. We are looking for trail marathons to 100km races that aren't too terribly far from Stuttgart, Germany. Also looking esp. for a race thanksgiving weekend - would be willing to travel to Italy, etc. for that one. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Angi & Mike
