Happy Knee Year

DSC01588.JPG

As you can see, lots and lots of partying was done ... we had a blast with family over the holidays. First we were in Barrie, Ontario (Canada) with my brother's family and then down in London, Ontario with my husbands relatives. We saw lots of folks we hadn't seen in awhile, including aunts and uncles in Toronto. My out laws (husband's siblings) are pictured here.

We partook of the usual eating and drinking to excess, especially on New Year's Eve much to my own detriment the following morning when we had to get up after only three hours of sleep to drive two hours to the airport in a snow storm! Curses - my brilliant plan of sleeping in the car on the way to the airport was foiled. C'est la vie. We made it with plenty of time to spare actually, though we were concerned at several points along the way.

I've been reading a lot of posts lately about people experiencing the post-holiday "blues" and I have to say that although the break from work and routine was fun, I was ready to return to my "normal" life. Too much eating and drinking in general, and not enough fruits, veggies, exercise, or sleep! (Though my niece's bed was awfully comfortable!) I, for one, am happy the holidays are over. Not in a Grinch-like way, just in a "I survived the holidays without getting sick" (yet) way.

It feels good to be back home, and into a routine again. Maybe this is an age related thing. I don't know. And I don't care (that definitely is an age-related thing). I appreciate the life I have. I am getting a new vehicle (Toyota Rav 4 - V6 - Limited - Barcelona Red - FWD) and that is exciting. I am also planning my next year's event calendar which is fun and daunting at the same time.

Here's what 2008 has in store for me:

1. Ford 70.3 in Oceanside California on March 29
2. Tierra Bella on April 19
3. Maratona dles Dolomites in Northern Italy June 29
4. La Marmotte in the French Alps July 5
5. Knoxville double century on Sept. 20

You can see there's a lot of cycling involved. So, I only hope my right knee holds up under the load - I have "Plica syndrome" which so far is still under control ... with the rehab, stretching, and care I'm taking not to "tweek" it. But hill climbing on the bike is a different story and I'm a little worried ... I have my knee specialist "standing by" just in case I determine that arthoscopic surgery is necessary. So far my knee is quite "happy" and I hate to upset the apple cart. But I leave myself with far more options if I test the knee earlier rather than later. So I must not put off the inevitable any longer, and just get my butt out there to see how my knee handles it. Fortunately I have some excellent riding partners to go out with, and hey, I live in California - no snow means I can bike all year round - except when we are experiencing hurricane force winds as happened this past week! I'm not that nuts!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday and wish you a Happy and Healthful New Year! Cheers!

It looks like a nice list of events. Go, Cindy, Go!

By the way, is your head resting on that girl's shoulder because you can't hold it up? :D
