Long time ... no hear. Happy new Year!

It seems like ages since I last wrote a post. Oh yeah, it has been ages, that's right. I don't really have a great excuse. I've been exercising some, but without any goals since knee surgery in March, vacationed in Europe in June, and got promoted to manager in July, resulting in less "free" time and energy and a disappointing 10 lb weight gain.

I have worked out every day this week, except today (so far). I should be out riding but decided to do some leisure activities including reading, music downloading, coffee drinking, picture uploading and ogranizing, eating, and of course blogging.

I know this is a primarily a running blog so don't worry I'll write a bit about that too. I finally took the plunge after 1 whole year of not racing or having any race goals, and signed up for the Kaiser Permanente Half Marathon on Feb. 1st in San Francisco. With 6 miles being my longest run in the past several months this will be more of an organized and very well supported (and expensive) training run. But what the heck, it's getting me up off the couch and tomorrow I reconnect with my friend Juls for a long run. I am so excited thinking about covering 9 or 10 miles around a picturesque reservoir with a good friend. Oh yeah, and the coffee we're sure to have afterwards!

I feel happier and more fulfilled just having put an event on my calendar! A target. Something to aim for. A tangible reason for my hectic schedule and tiredness. Even though on one hand it feels harder to juggle, it feels easier too because the energy I expend is for something I love to do. Actually I've gone a little crazy and added a LOT of events ... some compliments of my husband, like two century rides back to back on a single weekend in April! Let's be realistic ... that might not happen.

A friend at work, also a runner (a fast one) has challenged me to consider training for another full length marathon and I'm actually considering it - seriously. The limiting factor will be my knee and how well that holds up, but as I told him, if I don't START training I'll never know if I'm going to be limited or not, so let's get goin'. So, San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon, here I come ... maybe. (Stay tuned)

Losing 10 lbs and improving overall strength are my mega-goals for the first half of 2009. Then I will have the confidence to target a triathlon or another full marathon. I realized that for most of last year I was waiting to lose the weight and gain the strength before I set any goals, and that was not getting me where I needed to be. So I'm hoping that putting the Kaiser 1/2 on my calendar will motivate the right behaviors to allow me to reach my early year mega goals, and beyond.

All the best to you and yours, in health, happiness and prosperity for 2009.
