Catchin' Up
According to my auto-fill, I've used this title at least twice lately. I'm so not creative. I'm also really lazy, so thanks to everyone that continues to read my sporadically updated blog. Thanks for the nice comments, everyone.
Been kind of a lazy week here, as I didn't run at all during the weekdays. I had absolutely no energy after work - the work a/c broke AGAIN and it got up to 86 degrees for a few days. Wednesday, I was okay while at my desk but then I had to get up to do some stuff and it was just ugh. I felt like total crap for the rest of the day. It got better by Friday, and when I stopped in this morning it was normal temperature.
I am so jealous reading about Brent's potential new car (which I should e-mail you about so as not to monopolize either of our comments sections). My 2000 is in the shop right now because the a/c broke again (we had it repaired in September but the charge was all out by May so they are tearing apart the dash to find the leak), and while they don't normally give loaners for pre-owned warranty work we convinced them to make an exception. They've loaned me a 2004, and OMG WANT NEW CAR!! The spec sheets claim the engines are the same, but I swear the '04 is so much peppier and driving is so much more fun. I asked the Engineer if he thought they'd mind if we just kept this one. That's a totally fair trade, right?
Sidenote: what's with the a/c breaking as it gets into the 80s and 90s? That is literally not cool.
Since I didn't write a report about Med-City (I still might, maybe) I didn't explain how the relay worked re: the distance. The actual marathon is certified (although as Lakeshore proved that doesn't always = 26.2). The relays aren't really set distances. You run the marathon course, but as you approach the exchange points the marathoners split off into a separate lane. The relay people just exchange chips anywhere within the exchange area, so you don't necessarily stop at 1/4 or 1/2 marathon. I know that there were changes made to the course during the first 3 miles, so I wouldn't be surprised if the mile markers were set up incorrectly. I haven't gotten around to uploading my May log yet, but here are the splits that I took at each mile marker:
8:26
7:06 | 15:32
7:39 | 23:12
7:40 | 30:53
7:53 | 38:46
7:53 | 46:40
8:01 | 54:42
7:55 | 1:02:37
6:39 | 1:09:17 - OH YEAH RIGHT. I literally laughed out loud when we passed this one.
9:37 | 1:18:54
8:15 | 1:27:09
8:29 | 1:35:39
8:04 | 1:43:44
According to my watch, these are really splits for 1.11, 2.10, 3.16, 4.18, 5.15, 6.10, 7.12, 8.12, 8.96, 10.15, 11.15, 12.24, 13.21. I tried to download the data in mapping software, but it made even less sense. Granted, I do realize it's rare that my GPS is going to show splits of exactly 1.00, but 1.1+ is enough to say that the markings are off. So I've decided that the first half of the marathon was off, distance-wise (I know for sure that the first mile was long). And since I've decided that it's inaccurate, I'm going with what the GPS says because that's what I train with so I'm at least being consistent. Or something.
And now I shall make a separate post for my mud run.
