Rain = yuck!

Yesterday morning, it was raining when I got up. I wanted to run 12 miles on 1 day, and 4 on the second day, and I would have preferred the 12 miles to not be in the rain. So I checked the weather channel, and found that it was supposed to rain all weekend, with stronger winds today. That made yesterday the better option for a long run.

I was soaked within the first mile, and the rain continued steadily for the entire run. I headed out into the wind (suck) and then basically ran a big loop around town. For the most part, it was a pretty uneventful run. I thought about Brent running Get in Gear, and Dani running her 20 mile and hoped the cities had better weather (sounds like it was crappy there too).

I started to get pretty cold in the second half of my run, especially my hands. I realized too late that I'd been kind of clenching them, and it was painful to open them back up. My legs were also kind of feeling the effects of the cold rain. I don't know why, but I'd locked the front door when I left and as I got closer to my house I realized there was just no way I was going to be able to get the key out of my shorts pocket and open the door. Luckily the Engineer hadn't gone anywhere, because I rang the doorbell so he could let me in. It was also good he was home, because I needed him to take my shoes off for me. My hands were too numb to handle shoelaces. Almost every inch of my skin was either pink or red - fun! It took awhile, but I did finally warm back up.

So today when I saw it was not only raining, but there were wind gusts up to 30 MPH, my decision was made for me: treadmill. There was just no way I was going to go out and get numb hands 2 days in a row. The side benefit to treadmilling was that I actually did my weights afterwards! Since I was already in the basement and had time, I didn't have any excuse not to. (I would so love to do weights in the morning after running but I don't want to get up at 4AM. 5 is bad enough).

I hit 30 miles this week! I haven't run that much since last May. Next week, however, will need to be a cutback week since I've had a couple weeks of increases.

brrr it was cold at the end of the race while trying to find everybody. everyone was soaked too. fun times though! :)
