Pre-run Procrastination

Letting my oatmeal settle before heading out to run. It's going to be a great day! We had massive thunderstorms roll through yesterday which cooled everything off. It's only 61 degrees right now! I'm glad because I slept longer than expected; I'd wanted to be out the door by now, but with cooler temps and clouds it doesn't matter. I haven't figured out where/how I'm going to do my 12, but I figure I'll just head out to the bike paths and run around.

Is anyone else having big issues with Bloglines not updating any subscriptions? I think I'm going to have to read some of my favorites the "old fashioned way" with bookmarks. I should do what the Engineer does - he has Firefox open all bookmarks in a folder into tabs and lets them load in the background. Of course, the only problem with that is the sites that have videos will make everything noisy and slow down my computer. I'm sorry, but I really, really hate the video trend. I wish there was an option for them to not auto-play.

Does anyone run with a cell phone? If you do, how do you carry it? Every once in awhile, I think I should run with my phone but I don't know how I would do it. Fuel Belt does/did make a little holster you could clip to the belt, but I don't run with my FB that often, nor will I run a race with it. (The Engineer and I were discussing Chicago logistics and he wants me to either check my phone with my gear or carry it). I suppose the holster might clip to my shorts, but I have a feeling it would probably pull my shorts down.

Of course, that problem wouldn't be so bad if most of my shorts fit. I bought most of my running shorts back in summer of '00 and/or '01. I was at least 15 pounds heavier then, and because weight gain mainly settles around my thighs and belly that equals 2 jeans sizes. Luckily running shorts aren't sized as weird as jeans (and leg size doesn't matter as much), so they're only 1 size too big. They aren't falling down, there's just a lot of extra fabric that kind of annoys me sometimes. I have a few pairs that are newer and thus fit, but the majority are on the big side. I should really replace my old ones, but running shorts are expensive! I was excited to see cheap ones at Wal-Mart, but damn Wal-Mart uses some f-ed up sizing because their smalls are too big in the waist for me and they don't sell x-small. All my good running shorts are smalls - I also hate vanity sizing! All it does is make me feel bad about myself! But that's another rant for another day. I should check out Target again, I've had good luck there before.

have you thought about a race belt? simple belt with the little do-hickeys for holding your bib. no pouches, no bottles, just the belt. you might be able to clip the phone to that and not worry about your shorts falling down.

I have a race belt somewhere around here, but stopped using it after having a lot of problems getting it in a comfortable position (I broke one during a 10K trying to adjust it). I started just pinning my number to my shorts, which has worked well for racing. Maybe I should give it another try, though, because I *do* need to figure out a better method for carrying gels. My current method (gu pocket attached to the back of my shorts) works well except for the bruising and chafing from the clips. Now if I can figure out where in the scary "office" I left it ...

Hope you had a good run. I am a big fan of buying running clothing (and everything else) online. Some women I run with wear their cells on their arm (in what might be an ipod holder).

I stick mine in my water belt (the zippered area) when I need to carry it. I guess I am just getting used to the extra weight and banging around:)

Ahhh...procrastinantion is a good thing, my friend!

ipod holder could maybe work ... hmmm ....

Susie, unfortunately I think my phone is too big/bulky for my FB pouch. I told the Engineer he needs to just buy me a Razr or some other tiny phone if he wants me to carry one :)

For me today, procrastination proved to be a bad thing...lol.

As for the phone, Running Room makes some cool arm band style ones. I use one for my MP3 player.

I keep thinking I should have my phone with me sometimes too, but haven't figured out logistics around that and don't want to wear even more stuff!!

I am with you on vanity sizing. In high school I was probably a 5/6 or 7/8, I was at Kohls and tried on a skirt that is a 5/6, it was too big on me...hello, what's up with that? I'm also right now about 4 pounds above my high school track weight, but I wasn't a 4 in high school and I just bought a number of shorts and pants in size 4...

it's funny that you mentioned the feeds not updating, because yours weren't updating for me in google reader for some reason, so I headed over here "manually". hmph. stupid technology. :)

Thanks for the RR suggestion, Dawn. That's actually the store we just got here.

Dani, gap is one of the worst for vanity sizing. I bought some pants there and went back for more maybe 6 months later and had to drop a size even though my other pants still fit fine. And then last year, after I gained a few pounds and my pants didn't fit, I went in and was still the same size. The stupid sizing is why I am not a big fan of shooting for a clothing size when losing weight since it's totally meaningless.

:) to stupid technology. Looks like Bloglines is back working for me again finally.
