New obsession
I am seriously becoming addicted to pulling weeds. I've pulled weeds twice today, and a few times yesterday. Did anyone ever play Tetris so much that you could see the shapes when you closed your eyes? I have that with weeds. Our yard is such a shithole, it's sad the percentage that was made up of weeds. Of course, if they'd done a better job laying the sod, maybe it wouldn't look so bad.
I had a non-recommended jolt of adrenaline on Tuesday morning. I took Molly out to play Frisbee while pulling weeds before I headed out for my race. We played for awhile, and then I started trying to chop down this rather tree-like weed behind the air conditioner. Since I was paying attention to the spikey weed, I didn't see exactly what happened. But somehow, one of the intruders was on the ground, and then in Molly's mouth. I yelled "NO" and startled Molly enough for the bird to try and fly away. But it was wounded, and fell back to the ground where Molly went after it again. I again yelled "NO" (thinking how the neighbors were going to hate me for screaming at 7AM), the bird got a little farther and I got Molly into the house. The bird hid in between the fence while the other birds squawked and squawked, and I thought it might be dying. But I checked after the race, and if it did die it left my yard to do so. The intruders haven't been back that I can see. What a horrible start to the day ... the Engineer is kind of non-plussed about it, but I was horrified.
I tried out my new Molly running strategy this afternoon, and it worked out pretty well. After work, I got ready to run and then took her outside. She's got a pretty good routine down, so we shortly were off on our run. We ran 1.05 miles, then I quickly took her inside and set out for the rest of my recovery run. (I'd filled her water bowl with cold water and ice cubes before we left so she'd have fresh water waiting). My right hamstring gradually loosened, but I ran pretty slow to maximize my recovery.

OMG! That's so sad. I hope the bird is okay.
Nice run!

Egads! Was that like the Mommy bird or what? I guess that takes care of the intruder problem. Maybe it was just a relative visiting. I don't think I've ever seen a dog eat a bird before.

That is a horrible start to the morning...and 7 am yelling, yeah, I'd be not so happy a neighbor!! Just kidding...it's the late night ones talking loud that I don't like!! Looks like a start to a good new routine.

I'm not sure if it was Mommy bird or baby bird, but it was awful all the same. The Engineer shrugged it off as "dogs are carnivores," but then I guess I shouldn't expect him to be disturbed considering one of his parents' border collies scared/stared a rabbit to death.
RR, I probably would! I was eyeing all the weeds along the bike path today. I've got to stop!
