Sometimes you just can't win ...

After Saturday's debacle in the cold, I was determined to not freeze today even though the forecast was for subzero windchills. So I wore tights under my new pants - I don't think I blogged about my new pants, even though I'd thought up a whole post about winter running clothes and cost. Long story short, I'm not a big believer in the whole "good winter running clothes cost money" idea. But one of my Christmas gifts from my parents were a pair of Wind Pro Pants. I was able to pick them up last week, and they've been pretty great. I did wear them (w/o tights) on Saturday and my legs were mostly fine.

Anyway.

Good, Bad, Ugly

Ugly:

(ok, it's not that terrible, but that's what the report was after I was done running, it was a lot worse this morning when I woke up!)

Breaking Point

I think the only redeeming feature of today's run was that it was sunny (a rarity for winter in Minnesota).

Notice the wind conditions?

Damn Minnesota

I was looking forward to going outside for a 10-12 mile run this morning.

If I were only wanting to run 6, I'd probably just go out and deal with it. But for over an hour of running? No thanks. Hopefully the plows will come by in the next little while (yeah, doubtful) so I can go outside instead of treadmilling it.

Solo Run

I left Molly at home for this morning's run. Doing so allowed me to repeat Friday's first loop without as much fear of being run over by a car. I left her behind because it seems like Friday might have been a little ... disruptive to her. When I let her out of her kennel yesterday morning, she did something weird going up the stairs and then when going down the stairs to the outside. When I called the Engineer from work to ask if he'd noticed her limping or anything, he said she was running around fine, but was having some digestive "issues." I'm not sure if that's related to the running, but I decided to play it safe and leave her home.

Numbers

21 : MPH wind at start
17 : MPH wind at end
10 : miles run (distance PR for Molly!)
12 : degrees when starting running
9 : degrees towards the end of the run
-5 : windchill at start
-7 : windchill towards the end

Windy 6

Today was warmer than yesterday, but I wasn't able to enjoy it because it was so windy! Prior to running, weather channel was reporting:
37°F (Feels Like 25°) | From S at 26 mph gusting to 35 mph
And after running:
35°F (Feels Like 24°F) | From S at 24 mph gusting to 32 mph

Unpleasant 6

The actual running portion of today's run was okay. Some other stuff ...

Easy 6

Some runs there just isn't much to write about, but I'm trying to make a better effort at blogging something.

Tired

Yesterday and today's runs were kind of all about just getting in the miles, especially today as I felt like total crap. The run started off decent enough, aside from my getting tricked by weather channel. I had checked twice before I went out, and it claimed to be about 30 with a windchill around 20. But it ended up feeling a lot warmer than that, and I ditched my hat after 3 miles and had to take my gloves off several times to let my hands cool off.

6 mile warm-up?

Molly and I ran 6 again today, but today was much nicer since it was in the 40s for most of the day and almost all of the snow and ice has melted. Funny thing about Molly, though ... I don't know, I think 6 miles is a decent mid-week distance. But for Molly's it's like it's just a warm-up. At my parents' house over Christmas, they laughed when I'd bring her back from a run and she'd still be bouncing and raring to go. "Aren't you supposed to be tiring her out on these runs?" they'd ask. Yesterday we got back home, and I let her loose in the yard. I got dizzy just watching her run around - she was running laps, but diving into the snow while running around.

Amazing

The most amazing thing happened while we were gone for the holidays: it's no longer pitch black at 5PM.

Starting off the new year ...

in an annoying way!
