Yeah, so it's a little bit colder here. Molly and I headed out for 6 miles, but then since things were going decently I decided to try and stretch it out to 10 to get my long run done for the week. We're being forced to work this weekend (something I am fairly angry about) so being able to not worry about getting in my longer run is a relief.
The wind was coming from the north, and I knew we needed to get as much of the beginning as possible into the wind. So I again decided to try something new, only this probably won't be a route I run again with Molly. We started out on county 4 again, but turned north on 50th and followed it to the DT. The problem is that 50th is kind of narrow and doesn't have much of a shoulder. Molly didn't want to stay that close to me, and we eventually had to stop off on the side of the road when cars when come because I was getting so nervous. Luckily there weren't that many cars, but it was a little nerve-wracking to run that road with my dog.
I was pretty cold running into the wind, or at least my right hand was. I was getting a little nervous that I was losing feeling in my fingers so soon into the run. But once we turned off onto the DT (and headed out of the wind) things picked up. I actually kind of got into a "groove" and was able to pick up the pace a little bit. I was surprised to see a few people out; Molly did her usual freak out thing for the first few people, which was very annoying. I hate having to stop to let the people go by anyway, but even more so when it's so cold! We didn't get started until almost 4:30, so I was getting nervous about when it was going to get dark. When Molly was doing her stop/start thing, we still had at least 1.5 miles left on the DT, and that is not a place I want to be in the dark so I was trying to get out of there quickly! For some reason, though, after we crossed the bridge, she allowed me to keep running when a guy ran towards us and again when someone else passed.
We hit the stoplight to head home right at 5 miles, and I decided we'd keep going and try to hit 10. I knew it'd meant doubling up in the neighborhood, but thought I had an idea of how to do that. We continued south, and it did finally start getting dark. Since I'd been out of the wind for awhile, turning around to run back into it was a little unpleasant, even more so since I'd gotten a little warm.
I'm pretty pleased with the run, although I think is probably going to be my limit for running with Molly.
