So I got tricked by the snow plow today.

The snow plow drove by our house twice, which I took to be a sign that the roads were being cleared enough for me to run outside. (The last couple of winters, our street was always cleared after the rest of the subdivision). So I got dressed quickly and headed outside. I started to run down the street, but wasn't able to turn down the next street because it wasn't plowed yet. So I turned around and ran the opposite way down the street, only to find that the next street also wasn't cleared. I guess now that the back entrance to the subdivision is open, our street has higher priority now?

Well, I turned down the street anyway, figuring things would be okay once I got out onto 4. Running on the snow in the subdivision wasn't so bad because I was able to find parts that weren't deep and it was soft enough that it was slippery. The rest of the run was kind of a mixed bag. My splits indicate where I had better running surfaces than other. Most of the first half wasn't so bad. I was either able to run on the cleared sections of the road, or on the shoulder where the gravel was poking through. The last half wasn't as nice; I started heading into the wind, so I had snow blowing in my face. The roads were also not as cleared, but cars were out so the snow was slippery. But I got in the 12 I wanted so it's all good, I guess.

What's not good are the stupid Minnesotans out driving around. It's really sad that Minnesotans are so bad at driving in the snow; much like snow removal, I expected better when I moved here. But the stupidest thing I saw today was the high number of people driving around in the falling snow WITHOUT their lights on. (Maybe 1/10 had their lights on). I wish that the US had a daytime running light law like Canada, or that more car manufacturers made it a default option because obviously most people are too stupid to turn their lights on when they need to.
