Starting off the new year ...

in an annoying way!

I still feel kind of ucky, but I decided to try running with Molly anyway this morning. I had been tempted to run last night, especially when I saw that we'd gotten some snow (I like running in fresh snow, before it gets packed and/or too deep) but it was too late and windy.

Molly and I were out for a slow 5 miles this morning, partly because I still feel bad but mainly because the streets weren't cleared off at all. We maybe got 1-2", which isn't much at all (much better than the 10" we got in Nov), and it's supposed to be above freezing the rest of the week so it should melt quickly.

What was so annoying was that I fell at about 4.4 miles. The snow was kind of deep at that point, and as Molly was bounding along exuberantly, I managed to step off the sidewalk, turn my ankle and fall down. My asshole dog took that as an opportunity to not only continue diving into the snow, but to work her way out of her harness and run off! So I'm laying on the ground, crying like a big baby because I was already frustrated, and my stupid dog doesn't even care. So much for that whole "she'll be protective of you because she's 'your' dog" idea! (I bet Topaz would care if Julie fell. He seems like a nice dog). I was able to call her back to me pretty quickly, and held onto her until I could get her leash attached to her collar (I didn't want to bother reattaching the harness). I then brushed off the snow (I got pretty wet, but good thing the snow was there or I'd probably have hurt myself!) and we ran the rest of the way home. Luckily my ankle didn't hurt, but it was also faster to just run home rather than walk.

In less annoying news, I got to MN-test two of my Christmas presents. My husband's parents, brother and brother's fiancee all went in together to get me a Garmin 205. I've now run with it twice, and it's pretty cool. My favorite thing about it is that I can actually get it snug on my wrist, and I still have a hole left on the band. I always had trouble getting the 201 velcro tight enough. I'm also liking that hitting stop doesn't look like it makes a new lap. After I fell, I eventually did hit the stop button before I corralled Molly. I restarted it once I got back up and we got going again. I manually hit the lap for 5 miles, so I don't know if the watch would've picked up my auto-splits again, but it's cool that it kept mile 5 together. I'll have to test if it resumes the auto-laps.

The other thing I tested were 180s Convertible Training Gloves. So far, these are pretty awesome! They're almost too warm, actually. It was in the low 20s (windchill in the mid-teens) I think when we went out, and I actually had to take the gloves off for a few minutes because my hands were so warm. But I really like the extra warmth from the mittens while having the flexibility of gloves. So 2 thumbs up!
